PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Roman Burza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Haim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Burza comes to the cage accompanied by Guns N' Roses - Welcome To The Jungle. Haim has chosen My Way as his entrance music. Roman Burza has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Roman Burza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Haim!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haim throws a right hand that Burza ducks under and follows up with a left that Burza also avoids with ease.

Haim fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Burza sprawls well initially but Haim persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Well, if Haim is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Haim wants to control but Burza is keeping him busy.
Haim looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Haim is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Burza defends it well.
Haim trying to mount his opponent but Burza defends it.
Haim is looking to take a break and control but Burza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Burza is trying to stand.

Haim is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Burza doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Haim.
Haim controlling the pace.
Burza wants to get back to full guard.
Haim not doing much here.

Haim seems to be looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Haim wants to control but Burza is keeping him busy.
Burza is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Burza pushes Haim off looking to stand but Haim dives back in and keeps control.
Burza makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Burza.
Burza keeping moving, preventing Haim from controlling successfully.
Burza tries to land a sweep but no joy.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Haim trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Haim trying to control but Burza is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Corey Haim was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Burza lands a nice shot to the body.
Haim shoots for a double leg takedown but Burza sprawls well. He's pushed Haim's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Burza is looking to slow Haim down with leg kicks.
Haim moves into range and connects with a jab.
Burza misses with a low kick.
Burza uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Haim.
Burza wants to land a leg kick but Haim is out of range.

Haim lands an overhand right.
A solid leg kick lands there for Burza.
Haim takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Jab, jab by Haim - just one landing.
Burza leaves Haim with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Haim sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Haim tries for a takedown but Burza circles away easily
and Burza cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Roman Burza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Corey Haim.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Burza uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Haim.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Corey Haim dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Burza pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Burza throws out a leg kick but Haim moves out of range and Burza only half commits.
Haim tries for a takedown but Burza sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Haim fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Burza to the ground. Haim is now in Burza's guard.
Haim trying to control the position from guard on top but Burza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Burza kicks Haim off and gets to his feet.
Roman Burza is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Burza scores with a body shot.
Haim doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Burza makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Burza lands a slapping body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Burza misses with an attempted mid kick.
Haim moves out of range of the body kick.
Haim throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Burza's waist but Burza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Haim off to one side.
Roman Burza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Corey Haim.
Haim throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Haim bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Burza's head.
Haim misses with a two punch combination.
Burza lands a nice looking body shot.
Haim misses with a double jab.
Haim lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Burza at a distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Haim is defended easily by Burza.

Burza throws a nice outside leg kick.

Haim looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Burza wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Haim manages to pass to side control.
Burza controlling the position well.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Haim is looking to take a break and control but Burza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Burza won't allow Haim to pass to mount.
Haim wants to lay and pray for a moment but Burza keeps working.
Haim wants to pass to mount but Burza is defending the position.
Haim is thwarting Burza's attempts to control the position.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Haim shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Burza finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Burza gets a double leg takedown into Haim's guard.
Haim is trying to control the position but Burza postures up.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Haim. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Burza controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Burza in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Haim has Burza pulled in close to control his posture.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Corey Haim wasn't active enough on the ground.
Haim misses the shot to the body.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Haim.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Haim misses with a few strikes there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Corey Haim will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Burza misses with a hook
and Haim connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Burza throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Burza throws a big shot that misses.
Burza connects with an inside leg kick.
Burza throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
A combination from Haim does no damage.
Haim throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Burza on the side of the head.
Haim moves out of range as Burza throws a body kick.

Burza sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Haim's guard.

Burza is pressing down on Haim's thigh, looking to free his foot. Haim is holding on for now.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Haim is controlling Burza's trapped leg to prevent Burza from advancing to side control.
Burza throwing shots but Haim is blocking nicely.

Roman Burza has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Burza throws a leg kick which misses Haim's front leg but catches the back leg as Haim tries to avoid it.
Haim takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Burza lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Haim has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Haim and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Burza shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Burza showed some decent athleticism there.
Corey Haim has got the better of the ground game so far.
Burza not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Haim gets full guard.
Burza is fighting to break Haim's control of his arms but Haim is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Haim looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Burza is pushing down on Haim's leg trying to pass to half guard. Haim is fighting to maintain full guard but Burza has managed to sneak the leg through.
Burza takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Burza is keen to just control but Haim is a slippery customer.
Burza throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Burza throwing shots but Haim is blocking nicely.
