Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hector Ross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Schmidt (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ross comes to the cage accompanied by Here Comes the Boom-Nelly. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schmidt fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Ross stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Ross wants it to stay on the feet. Ross wants to clinch but Schmidt slips to the side and Schmidt counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ross's guard now. Schmidt postures up and lands a big shot to Ross's brow. Schmidt content to stall in guard here. Schmidt is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Schmidt stands and throws Ross's legs to the side, diving into side control. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmidt scores with a couple of short elbows.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ross stops Schmidt from passing to mount. Ross is trying to escape the position but Schmidt is controlling the position. Schmidt decides to stand back up. Schmidt steps back and let's Ross get back to his feet. Ross scores with a nice strike. Ross misses with a few strikes there.
Ross tests Schmidt's chin there with a solid looking shot. Schmidt uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Ross. Schmidt is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Ross ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Schmidt moves away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmidt scores with a takedown into Ross's guard. Ross is breathing heavily. Ross is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Schmidt sitting in guard here, content to control. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Schmidt postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Schmidt slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. Schmidt passes easily into side control. Nice work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmidt advances to mount. Schmidt content just to control the position here. Ross really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Schmidt cracks Ross with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmidt sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Schmidt is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Ross to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Ross shrugs it off. Schmidt controlling his opponent. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jon Schmidt dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Schmidt. Ross doesn't manage to clinch there - Schmidt circles away.
Ross closes the distance and clinches. Schmidt drops down looking for an ankle pick but Ross pulls his leg out and moves away.
Schmidt pushes Ross up against the cage in a clinch. Schmidt trying to control the position but instead, Ross has worked for underhooks and has pushed Schmidt into the cage. Schmidt gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground. Schmidt controls from within his opponent's guard. Ross keeping moving, preventing Schmidt from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Ross scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ross fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Schmidt on the wrong end of a nice hook. Ross stalks Schmidt and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Schmidt's face. Schmidt staggers backwards, shaken.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmidt is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ross sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hector Ross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Schmidt. Schmidt has managed to clinch.
Ross works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Schmidt seems keen to control Ross's posture. Schmidt is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ross defends well. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ross accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Schmidt wants to stand but Ross is controlling the position. Schmidt bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Ross's guard. Ross can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Schmidt controls the pace.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmidt lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Schmidt controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Schmidt wants to stand but Ross is controlling his posture from full guard. Ross keeping moving, preventing Schmidt from controlling successfully.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jon Schmidt wasn't active enough on the ground. Schmidt scores with a hook.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmidt has a takedown stuffed. Schmidt on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Ross closes the distance and clinches. Schmidt is trying to pull guard but Ross turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Ross using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Schmidt has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Ross throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Schmidts head. Ross is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Schmidt pulls him back up using the underhooks. Ross tries to work over Schmidt's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Schmidt gets control of Ross's arms and successfully pulls guard. Schmidt will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Ross postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Schmidt is pulling down on Ross's head. It's preventing any offense from Ross, at least for the moment. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jon Schmidt showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
The fight moves into the clinch position. Ross tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Schmidt breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Schmidt misses with a low kick. Schmidt closes the distance and clinches up with Ross, looking for a takedown. Schmidt pushes Ross against the cage but Ross circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Schmidt tries a head kick but it misses.
Ross tries to clinch up and Schmidt counters by clinching up. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Ross misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Schmidt.

That's one minute gone in the round. Schmidt working hard to break the clinch. Schmidt dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Ross escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Schmidt shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ross's guard. Schmidt connects with a couple of short punches. Schmidt gets to his feet. Ross looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Schmidt ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ross moves away. Ross misses with a low kick.
Schmidt shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ross sprawls well. Ross wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Schmidt gets slowly back to his feet. Ross uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Schmidt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmidt changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Ross tries to avoid it but Schmidt manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Ross to the ground. Ross escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Hector Ross has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jon Schmidt. Ross scores with a spinning back kick! Ross tries to clinch but Schmidt is having none of it. Ross tries to clinch there but Schmidt circles away.
Hector Ross has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ross tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Schmidt manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Ross pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Ross misses with a head kick.
Schmidt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Schmidt controlling from the top position. Ross wants to stand and escape but Schmidt is having none of it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmidt engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Schmidt advances to half guard. Schmidt keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Jon Schmidt. Schmidt gets a clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmidt fails to pull the fight into his guard.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Ross. Ross manages to break the clinch.
Hector Ross seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Schmidt tries to clinch but Ross moves out of range. Schmidt showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Ross.
Schmidt changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ross looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Ross is letting Schmidt control him for a moment. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ross misses with an elbow from the bottom.
And that's the end of the fight! Jon Schmidt comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Schmidt winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
