PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Wesley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Peacock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Jay Peacock was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Wesley!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jay Peacock!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wesley shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Peacock counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wesley pushes Peacock off looking to stand but Peacock dives back in and keeps control.
Peacock tries to stand but can't do so whilst Wesley controls his leg.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Peacock in particular looking to stall.
Wesley is trying to get back to full guard.
Peacock controlling the pace.
Wesley is trying to control but can't.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Jay Peacock hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Peacock shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Wesley is trying to defend but Peacock finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Peacock wants to get back to his feet.
Peacock trying to control the pace.
It looks like Peacock might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

Peacock wants to work for an arm triangle but Wesley is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Peacock connects with a nice short shot to Wesley's temple.
Peacock working over Wesley with some ground and pound. Wesley looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Peacock wants to get back to his feet.
Still in half guard, Peacock seems content to control.

Peacock wants to pass the guard but Wesley is defending well.

Wesley looking for submissions off his back.
Peacock is taking a breather. Wesley says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Peacock connects with a nice short shot to Wesley's temple.
Peacock wants to pass the guard but Wesley is defending well.

Wesley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Peacock is working away from the top position though.

Peacock passes the guard and advances to mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wesley is looking to get to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Peacock dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Wesley closes the distance looking to clinch

and Peacock counters by clinching up.
Wesley jumps guard but Peacock turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Wesley is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Peacock pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Wesley drops down looking for an ankle pick but Peacock pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Brandon Wesley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Peacock throws a mid kick that lands with a slap.
Peacock avoids the head kick by Wesley.
Peacock is trying hard to land a takedown here. Wesley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Peacock misses with a takedown attempt - Wesley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Peacock misses with a double jab.
Peacock pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Wesley back to the cage. Peacock follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Wesley looks to land a combination but Peacock avoids it well.
Peacock is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Wesley.

Peacock has closed the distance and engaged Wesley in a clinch.
Come on Peacock - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Wesley blocks an elbow strike.

Peacock pulls guard successfully.
Peacock pulls Wesley in to control the position.
Wesley wants to pass the guard but Peacock is keeping the position.
Jay Peacock has got the better of the ground game so far.
Wesley looking to sit in guard and control but Peacock gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Peacock tries to free his leg and advance position but Wesley is retaining full guard.

Peacock got a little sloppy there for a moment and Wesley has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Peacock has managed to get both his arms back between Wesley's legs - danger averted.
Peacock wants to stand but Wesley has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wesley wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Peacock is now in half guard.

Peacock trying to control the pace.
Peacock not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Wesley is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Peacock is nestled in close to Wesley, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Wesley is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Peacock pulls his head out easily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Peacock looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Peacock seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Peacock thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Peacock lands with a punch from half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Peacock is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Wesley manages to get to full guard.
Peacock wants to pass the guard but Wesley is keeping the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Peacock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Wesley looks to land a combination but Peacock avoids it well.
Peacock shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Wesley as he avoids it easily.

Peacock lands a big head kick that sends Wesley tumbling to the mat! Peacock takes a step backwards and waves Wesley back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Wesley is rocked!


It looks like Brandon Wesley has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Peacock takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Oh Wesley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wesley throws a lazy head kick
and Peacock counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Peacock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Peacock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
You can see the frustration on Wesley's face as Peacock controls the position.
Peacock has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Wesley!
Peacock content just to control the position here.
Wesley seems to have got his legs back now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Peacock has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Peacock prevents Wesley from getting the reversal.
Peacock cracks Wesley with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Peacock looking to control and managing it successfully.
Peacock punishing his opponent with strikes.

Wesley is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Peacock working for a guillotine from mount but Wesley is in no mood to give up.
Peacock takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Peacock landing shots from mount.
Peacock controlling the position easily from mount.
Peacock connects with a bit shot that sees Wesley covering up! More strikes from Peacock and the referee jumps in to stop the fight! Peacock is our winner by TKO!
