Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Aoki Funkyama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Probst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Funkyama might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to . The crowd seem to be enjoying Probst's choice of entrance music: Control. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Aoki Funkyama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jeff Probst! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Robert Douchet and Ian Loll.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Funkyama doesn't succeed with the takedown and Probst counters with a solid body kick. Probst stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Probst wants it to stay on the feet. Aoki Funkyama seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Probst lands the left hand. Probst slaps away a takedown attempt from Funkyama, before circling back to the center of the mat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aoki Funkyama. That's going to take a lot out of him. Probst stuffs the takedown attempt from Funkyama. Funkyama gets slowly back to his feet. Funkyama will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's one minute gone in the round. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Probst keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Funkyama trying to advance position but Probst counters by regaining guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Probst wants to stand up but Funkyama is controlling him. Funkyama throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Probst seems keen to control Funkyama's posture. Funkyama stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Probst swivels though and keeps the full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Funkyama is working hard here to advance position. Funkyama trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Probst manages to land a sweep and now he's on top! Funkyama keeping moving, preventing Probst from controlling successfully. Funkyama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Probst doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Probst manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Probst postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Funkyama being controlled here, momentarily. Probst tries to stand but Funkyama is controlling from the bottom. Funkyama has control of Probst's left arm, preventing Probst from doing any damage. Probst passes into half guard. Funkyama wants to get back to full guard. Funkyama strikes from the bottom but Probst passes into mount!
Probst is trying to stand up but he's being controlled by his opponent.

Funkyama wants to control from the top but Probst keeps moving. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Funkyama closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Probst did well to prevent Funkyama getting side control. Probst wants to get back to his feet.
Funkyama is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Probst defends it well. Funkyama wants to control but Probst is keeping him busy. Probst keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Funkyama is looking to take a break and control but Probst is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Funkyama connects with a nice short shot to Probst's temple. Funkyama is figuring out what he wants to do next. Funkyama is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Funkyama is looking for a kimura but Probst is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Funkyama to get the leverage. Funkyama sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Probst defending well though. Funkyama tries to pass the half guard into mount. Probst knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Funkyama has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Funkyama is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Funkyama throwing shots but Probst is blocking nicely. Probst is trying to stand up here but Funkyama is controlling him well. Funkyama is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Probst! Probst tries to get back to half guard but can't. Funkyama jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Probst is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Probst and Funkyama has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Probst regains half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Funkyama passes to full mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Funkyama dives in and grabs Probst's left leg, looking for a takedown. Probst pushes down on Funkyama's head and hops out. Funkyama changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Probst tries to avoid it but Funkyama manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Probst to the ground. Probst escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Funkyama fails with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aoki Funkyama. That's going to take a lot out of him. A big left from Probst misses. The fighters circling - Probst throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Probst looks to land a combination but Funkyama avoids it well. Probst misses with a double jab.

Probst displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Funkyama. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Probst connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Funkyama shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Probst manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Probst pulls Funkyama in close to prevent any damage. Funkyama wants to control from the top but Probst keeps moving. Funkyama is looking to work some ground and pound but Probst has wrist control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Funkyama showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Probst.

Funkyama gets the takedown into side control. Probst throws Funkyama to one side and escapes! Probst shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Funkyama throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Probst's waist but Probst gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Funkyama off to one side. Some wild striking there from Probst.
Funkyama shoots in looking for a takedown but Probst manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Funkyama's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Funkyama tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Probst was well out of range. Poor timing from Funkyama. Funkyama dodges the punch combination from Probst.
Horrible takedown by Funkyama or perhaps it was just good defense by Probst which made him look bad.

Funkyama throws a right and a left that Probst avoids nicely. Probst shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Probst stuffs the takedown. Funkyama throws a series of punches but Probst moves out of range. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Funkyama is defended easily by Probst. Funkyama fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Probst avoids it really well and circles away. Jeff Probst has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Probst tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Funkyama was well out of range. Poor timing from Probst.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Aoki Funkyama. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Funkyama, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
