PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dick Pippel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zoran Yuriev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pippel misses with a takedown attempt - Yuriev sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Yuriev wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Yuriev throws a series of punches but Pippel avoids them all with ease.
Yuriev throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Yuriev will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Yuriev pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
A combination from Yuriev does no damage.
Pippel throws out a leg kick but Yuriev moves out of range and Pippel only half commits.
Yuriev misses with a low kick as Pippel jumps back.
Yuriev circles away from the clinch attempt.
Pippel checks a leg kick nicely.
Yuriev throws a front kick aimed at Pippel's knee but Pippel avoids it well.

Yuriev looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pippel is fending him off so far but Yuriev persists. Nope, Pippel circles away and we're back to standing.

Yuriev throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pippel pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Yuriev finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Pippel gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.
A shot to the liver by Yuriev. Beautiful body shot.
Pippel tries to clinch up but Yuriev circles away and keeps his distance.
Yuriev leaves Pippel with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dick Pippel. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yuriev keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Yuriev throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pippel's waist but Pippel gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Yuriev off to one side.
Pippel takes one to the chin there.
Yuriev digs a good hook to Pippel's body.
Pippel shoots in looking for a takedown. Yuriev tries to sprawl out of it but Pippel keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Yuriev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Yuriev looks to throw a body kick
and Pippel counters with a good low kick that Yuriev was not able to check.
Yuriev slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Yuriev gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Pippel has a couple of punches blocked by Yuriev.
This has been an exciting period of action!
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Yuriev takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.
Yuriev blocks a couple of punches on the inside.

Pippel ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Pippel no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Yuriev won't allow Pippel to get back to his feet.
Pippel has a closed guard, preventing Yuriev from standing up.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pippel is looking to sinch up a triangle. Yuriev throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Pippel's body to avoid the submission. Pippel has instead reached around Yuriev's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Pippel arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

After the fight, Dick Pippel was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
