PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shane Carter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva comes to the cage accompanied by Little Lion Man by Mumford and Sons. Carter has chosen Coming Home by Diddy ft. Skylar Grey as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of New York, Ricardo Silva!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Shane Carter!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Lou da Vinci and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Carter gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Silva to score an easy takedown into full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Silva is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Silva looking to pass the guard.
Carter manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Silva manages to get himself to full guard.
Silva wants to sweep here but Carter controlling him for the moment.
Carter postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Carter regains half guard.
Silva thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Carter's head.
Carter trying to control here.
Silva wants to take a breather but Carter is having none of it.
Silva sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Carter defending well though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Carter keeping control of the position.
Carter wants to get back to full guard but Silva has passed into side control.
Silva working away.
Carter tries to bench press Silva off him but Silva keeps the position.
Silva is trying to ground and pound but Carter uses the momentary lack of control by Silva to regain half guard.
Silva moves into full mount! Carter won't be happy about that!
Carter is desperately trying to improve his position but Silva has a good base and remains in mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva tries to control but Carter wriggling away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Silva controlling from mount.
Silva sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Carter is trying to escape the mount.
Carter taking shots to the head.
Silva cracks Carter with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Poor strikes thrown by Silva there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Carter is wriggling around trying to escape.
Carter sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ricardo Silva dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


That kick from Silva tenderised Carter's leg. Carter is trying to keep his angry face on.
A head kick misses from Silva.
Carter takes a kick to the side of the head.
Silva misses with a head kick.
Silva tries a low kick but Carter avoids it.
Silva throws a quick inside leg kick.
Silva looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Carter motions for Silva to come forward. Carter throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Silva tries a head kick but it misses.
Silva throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Carter's head.
Nice sprawl there from Silva as Carter shoots in.
Carter blocks a head kick by Silva.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Silva tries to work over Carter's front leg with a kick but Carter checks it.
Silva throws a head kick that Carter semi-blocks.


Carter is rocked!
Silva cracks the inside of Carter's front leg.
Carter is still on wobbly legs! Can Silva finish him?
Carter wants to stay close but Silva steps back to make room for something. Carter seems frozen to the spot and bam! huge swing of the leg from Silva and Carter drops like he has been shot! A huge head kick and it's all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Ricardo Silva!
Ricardo Silva is the new light heavyweight champion!
Post fight, an emotional Ricardo Silva said 'Thank you, my family in Brazil. I love you. Thank you God; I love you God, you got me here, you're my buddy. Now I have title and I go to Disneyland.'.
