Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Gonzales (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Powell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Scott Powell looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Michael Gonzales !
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Powell !
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Alyssa Summers and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Powell fails to land the takedown.
Powell looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Gonzales tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Powell manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Gonzales lands with a cross.
Powell thows a leg kick but Gonzales checks it

and Gonzales counters with a head kick that drops Powell to the mat! Powell scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gonzales closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.


Powell is rocked!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Gonzales is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Powell is still in real trouble! Can Gonzales finish him?
Gonzales moves nicely into side control.

Gonzales working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

Gonzales wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Powell , who protects the arm well.
Powell seems to have recovered his senses.

Gonzales has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Gonzales ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Gonzales no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Powell misses with a takedown
and Gonzales counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Gonzales changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Powell tries to avoid it but Gonzales manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Powell to the ground. Powell escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Powell gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Powell can't keep his opponent in guard - Gonzales advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Gonzales frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Gonzales throwing shots from mount but they're not landing.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Powell in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Powell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Powell can do anything to dispel that myth.
Powell is squirming around, avoiding Gonzales 's attempts to control the action.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Powell wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gonzales .

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Gonzales is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Powell is just riding it out for now. Gonzales eventually gives up the hold.

Gonzales wants to lay and pray for a moment but Powell keeps working.

and Gonzales makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Powell really felt that one!

Gonzales works to advance to full mount. Powell defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Powell wants to control but Gonzales is having none of it.

Well Gonzales has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
