PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Cade Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Wong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith comes to the cage accompanied by Promises Promises. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Atkins and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wong avoids a punch combination nicely.
Wong misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Smith throws and low kick but Wong moves out of range easily.

Wong has closed the distance and engaged Smith in a clinch.
Smith is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Wong breaks from the clinch.
Wong circles away from the clinch attempt

and Wong counters with a shoot takedown. Smith fights it but they end up in guard.
Smith is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wong wants to stand but Smith has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Smith is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Smith wants to stand back up but Wong manages to pass into side control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Wong performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Smith wants to control but Wong is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Smith is looking for a sweep.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Wong wanted to stand there but Smith had control of the position.

Smith wants to get back to his feet but Wong passes into half guard.

Smith tries to escape but Wong has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

Smith looking to stop the rear naked choke attempt by controlling the hands.
Smith wants to get back to his feet.
Wong doesn't have the hooks in and Smith manages to turn into his guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Wong controlling the position.
Wong keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully.
Smith slips nicely into half guard.
Smith content to control rather than advance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Smith is stalling here. Wong is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Smith seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Wong has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Wong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Smith on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Smith goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Smith tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Wong counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Smith is looking for a sweep. Wong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smith is working hard here to advance position.
Wong seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Wong trying to mount his opponent but Smith defends it.

Smith manages to escape and get back to his feet!

Cade Smith is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Smith throws a hook but Wong avoids it easily.

and Wong counters with a series of strikes. Smith will be more careful next time no doubt.

and Wong counters with a nice double leg into side control. Smith won't be happy with that.

Wong has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

James Wong comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Wong has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
