PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jim Mack (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Geoffrey King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mack comes to the cage accompanied by DMX (Ruff Ryders Anthem). The crowd seem to be enjoying King's choice of entrance music: King of my Castle by Wamdue Project. Geoffrey King will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jim Mack! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Geoffrey King! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mack throws a series of punches but King avoids them all with ease. A good leg kick by King. A punch lands to the side of King 's head but he takes it in his stride. Mack scores with a body shot.
King fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. King throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Mack shoots in but King avoids the takedown attempt easily. Mack tries for a takedown but King circles away easily and King makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. King walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Mack scores with a nice strike. King stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Mack. That's going to take a lot out of him. King thuds his right hand into Mack's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters. Mack gets a takedown into half guard. Mack misses with a head shot. King uses the momentum to regain guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. King is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Mack throws a strike but King rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Mack looking to hit a scissor sweep but King is one step ahead there. King is looking to stand up but Mack won't let him. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's three minutes gone in the round. King controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Mack has a closed guard, preventing King from standing up. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. King won't allow Mack to sweep him here. Mack is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. King keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. King slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Mack throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Mack postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. King has his feet on Mack's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Mack is looking to clinch but King is avoiding it.
Geoffrey King is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. King misses with a looping right. Jim Mack seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Good standup being displayed there by King as he connects with a hook. The fight stays on the outside here - Mack looks like he's thinking about clinching though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Geoffrey King will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Mack gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and King counters with a stiff right hand. King looks to land a left hand but Mack moved out of range nicely. Mack shoots in and bounces King off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Mack accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Mack thows a big elbow that misses. Mackis looking to pass into half guard but King pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now King is in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. King stands up and waves to Mack to follow him. King moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Mack sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Mack blocks a head kick by King.
Jim Mack is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Danga de danga de dang - King scores with a four punch combination! King walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Mack checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mack tries to close the distance and clinch but King swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. King avoids a lazy jab quite easily. King throws a left and a right that both miss
and King takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Mack missing with a left hand there. King was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Mack is looking to take this fight into the clinch. King waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Mack.
That's three minutes gone in the round. King pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Mack slips a straight right by King. Mack tries for a takedown but King circles away easily and Mack takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. King throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Mack's head. King throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Mack wants to clinch but King slips to the side and King counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
That's four minutes gone in the round. King catches Mack with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! King misses with a body punch
and Mack counters with a stiff right hand. Mack throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and King counters with a nice body kick. King cracks Mack with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. King has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Mack to stand back up!
Mack is rocked! King cracks Mack with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Mack looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can King finish him?
Oh Mack is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mack on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by King. King obviously looking to wear him down.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Geoffrey King showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Mack has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by King. Mack seems to have got his legs back now. King misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

letting King counter with a right hand. Mack takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! King misses with a jab, cross combination.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. King closes the distance and lands a one-two. Mack gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and King makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Mack really felt that one!
That's one minute gone in the round. Mack with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling King to score with a decent uppercut. King throws a series of punches but Mack avoids them all with ease. King lands a nice hook to Mack's body. Mack takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. King lands a nice looking kick to the body. Mack takes a step back to recover. King throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! King lands a with a good body shot. Mack takes one to the chin there. Mack defending well as King loads up on a big left hand. King lands a nice leg kick that just misses Mack's sensitive parts. King drops Mack with a nice combination! King dives into Mack's guard, looking to finish!

That's three minutes gone in the round. King trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mack's guard. Mack tries to land a sweep but no joy. King is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. King wants to control from the top but Mack keeps moving. Mack lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for King! King is wriggling around trying to escape.
Jim Mack has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mack avoids the attempt from King to control. King taking shots to the head.
And that's the end of the fight! Geoffrey King comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got King winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
