The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Illya Tyunina.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ballard swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Katsarelias.
Ballard shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Katsarelias manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Ballard trying to control the position from guard on top but Katsarelias is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Kevin Ballard hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Katsarelias drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Katsarelias stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ballard swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ballard controls Katsarelias momentarily but Katsarelias frees himself.

Ballard closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Ballard has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
