5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mitchell Guzman! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, James Chaney! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Robert Twigg and George Francis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guzman fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Chaney to the ground. Guzman is now in Chaney's guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Guzman throws a big right hand that misses. Guzman trying to control the position from guard on top but Chaney is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Chaney wants to control the position but Guzman says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard. Guzman wants to control but Chaney is keeping him busy. Chaney makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Chaney. Guzman trying to control but Chaney is working from the bottom. Guzman content to stall in guard here. Chaney is looking to stand up but Guzman isn't so interested in that idea.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Mitchell Guzman just wasn't active enough. Guzman closes the distance and clinches. Chaney tries to land a knee to the head but Guzman blocks with his arms.
Guzman taking a breather. Chaney is fighting off a takedown attempt but Guzman is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Chaney to the mat. Chaney regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guzman knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chaney on the ground. Guzman wants to control from the top but Chaney keeps moving. Chaney is trying to control the position but Guzman postures up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Chaney seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Guzman does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The ref stands the fighters back up. James Chaney was stalling too much, according to the referee. Chaney gets off balance looking for a body kick and Guzman counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Guzman would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Guzman looking to sit in guard and control but Chaney gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Guzman looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Guzman is looking for a triangle but Chaney pushes his legs off easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Chaney sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Guzman's guard. Guzman is trying to get back to full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chaney tries to clinch up and Guzman counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Chaney has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Guzman is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. Guzman has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Chaney is proving hard to escape from.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Chaney keeping moving, preventing Guzman from controlling successfully. Mitchell Guzman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Guzman is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Chaney sees it coming and defends easily. Guzman stands up from half guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Guzman keeps the fight on the outside. Guzman has a takedown stuffed. Chaney tries to close the distance and clinch but Guzman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Guzman avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Guzman shoots in for a double leg but Chaney sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Guzman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Chaney throws a right and a left that Guzman avoids nicely. Chaney throws a sloppy head kick and Guzman moves out of range easily. Guzman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Chaney is looking to reverse the position. Guzman tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Guzman looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Chaney is avoiding damage well.
