PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mirko Boban (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alan Corke (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boban comes to the cage accompanied by Ana Tijoux - 1977. Mirko Boban is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alan Corke!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Bruno Hogan and Donatello Bradman.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Boban has his foot on Corke's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Corke works his way back into a safe position though.

Corke throws the left hand but Boban avoids the punch easily.
Corke dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Boban with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.
Corke wants to break free but Boban has control.
Corke wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Corke has had enough of the clinch but Boban keeps him there for the moment.
Boban tries to score a body lock takedown but Corke shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

and Boban counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

and Boban counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Corke is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Corke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boban tries to clinch there but Corke circles away.
Corke thows a body shot but no joy.
Boban scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Mirko Boban will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

The crowd cheers as Boban lands an impressive looking overhand right. Corke doesn't seem phased though.
Corke tries to close the distance and clinch but Boban swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Corke will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Boban moves into range and clinches up with Corke.
Boban unloads a knee to the mid-section.
Corke is trying to break the clinch but Boban is controlling him.
Boban jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Corke walks away with a smile on his face. Boban gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Boban takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Corke lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Corke throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
A punch lands to the side of Corke 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Corke avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Boban closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Corke's guard.
Boban wants to control from the top but Corke keeps moving.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Alan Corke has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Boban pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Corke is keeping the position for now.
Corke is looking to stand up but Boban isn't so interested in that idea.
Corke really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Boban. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Corke takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Boban decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Corke, up you get!

Boban displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Corke throws out the jab.

Boban throws a lazy right hand but Corke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Boban shoots in for a takedown but Corke shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Boban darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Boban takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Corke tries to land a front kick but Boban steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

and Boban counters with a stiff right hand.

Boban moves in looking to clinch but Corke pushes him off.

Boban lands a jab to Corke's midsection.

Boban gets to his feet - Corke follows without any prompting.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Corke tries to clinch up but Boban circles away and keeps his distance.
Boban fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Corke manages to avoid it.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mirko Boban showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Boban, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
