PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Come At Me (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Funk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Come At Me!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Funk!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
At Me on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

At Me gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
At Me keeping full guard, as Funk tries to pass.
At Me throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Funk stands up and waves to At Me to follow him.
An inside leg kick from At Me misses.
Funk throws a nice looking combination but At Me bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Funk gets in close and instigates a clinch.

At Me decides to pull guard.
Funk showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Funk decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on At Me, up you get!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Funk closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming At Me to the mat! At Me manages to get full guard.
At Me will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
At Me is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
At Me is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Funk passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Funk controlling the position from side mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
It looks like Funk might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
At Me tries to buck Funk off but Funk is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by David Funk.
Funk misses with a jab, cross combination.

Funk has taken the fight to the clinch.

Funk has clasped his hands together around At Me's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
At Me on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
At Me is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
At Me is being controlled here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
At Me is looking to reverse the position.
At Me knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Funk on the ground.
At Me is breathing heavily.
Funk controls the position.
At Me is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Funk has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
A right-left combo lands from Funk.

Funk closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Funk lands in his opponent's guard.

At Me is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Funk is aware though and is defending well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Funk slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Funk dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A solid body kick from Funk.
Funk displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
At Me tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
At Me misses with the body kick

and Funk counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Funk.

At Me is fighting off a takedown attempt but Funk is just too persistent for him and manages to trip At Me to the mat. At Me regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Funk advances to half guard.
Funk uses his free foot to push down on At Me's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for At Me.
Funk lands with some strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Funk looking to control and managing it successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

At Me keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

At Me really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Funk swings around for an armbar and he's got it! Wow, that came out of nowhere! What a finish!
