PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and KO Kaelin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). KO Kaelin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Daniel Cormier!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, KO Kaelin!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Mauricio Rocha and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kaelin walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Daniel Cormier seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cormier shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cormier throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Kaelin keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Cormier has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Cormier throwing shots but Kaelin is blocking nicely.
Cormier lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Cormier throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Cormier trying to control the action but Kaelin is working from the bottom.
Cormier is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Kaelin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cormier looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kaelin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Cormier is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Cormier is keen to just control but Kaelin is a slippery customer.
Cormier thows a huge punch but Kaelin dodges it nicely.
Kaelin won't allow Cormier to pass to mount.
Cormier thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Kaelin's head.
Cormier is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kaelin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cormier. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Cormier works his foot free and advances to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Poor strikes thrown by Cormier there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kaelin wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Cormier.
Cormier lands a nice shot to the head.


It looks like KO Kaelin has been cut.
Cormier with shots to the head and body - Kaelin looks very uncomfortable down there.


That has opened up KO Kaelin's cut even more.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Cormier lands a big elbow - Kaelin is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Kaelin is forced to tap out!
