The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Pain. No joy for Goransson on that attempt. Pain shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Goransson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Goransson clinches. Pain manages to break the clinch.
Pain connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Johnny Pain seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice shot by Pain. Pain is looking to clinch but Goransson is avoiding it.
An inside leg kick lands from Pain. Pain closes the distance and clinches. Pain connects with a nasty looking knee right to Goransson's face.
It looks like Joakim Goransson has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pain lands a knee to the body.
Pain is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Goransson is defending well. Pain has clasped his hands together around Goransson's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Pain trying to control the position but Goransson is working away. Pain will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Pain grinds an elbow into Goransson's temple. Pain looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Pain working the ground and pound. Pain trying to control the position but Goransson is working away. Goransson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pain. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Pain is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Goransson knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Pain has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. Pain works his foot free and advances to mount. Pain looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Pain controlling his opponent.

Pain pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Pain is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Goransson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Goransson! Pain wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. Pain looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Goransson puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Goransson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Pain does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. Pain works his way to full guard. Good work. Goransson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Pain wants to sweep but no luck. Johnny Pain overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Pain controls Goransson momentarily but Goransson frees himself.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pain fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Goransson, pushing him back against the cage. Pain misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Goransson.
Pain is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Goransson drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pain gets the underhooks and prevents it.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Pain has hold of Goransson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Goransson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pain is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Goransson to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Goransson shrugs it off. Pain trying to control but Goransson is having none of it. Pain wants to take Goransson's back but he can't do it this time. Pain working away from the top, dropping strikes.
