PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alistar Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris OSullivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). OSullivan has chosen I'm Shipping up to Boston - Dropkick Murphys as his entrance music. Chris OSullivan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alistar Overeem!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chris OSullivan!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Albert Achterberg and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Overeem gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Overeem with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.
Overeem tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
OSullivan is looking for a takedown.
Overeem misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from OSullivan.

OSullivan works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The crowd hopeful of a finish here - OSullivan's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Overeem wants to stand up but OSullivan is controlling him.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chris OSullivan hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

OSullivan drops down looking for an ankle pick but Overeem pulls his leg out and moves away.

Overeem has taken the fight to the clinch.
OSullivan on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Overeem wants to get up but he can't break OSullivan's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

A close second round but Chris OSullivan will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


OSullivan fakes the leg kick and cracks Overeem in the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Overeem misses with a shot to the kidneys.

OSullivan is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Overeem can't fight it off and eventually OSullivan manages to take the fight to the floor. Overeem looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Overeem wants to get back to his feet but OSullivan is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

OSullivan has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

OSullivan is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Overeem to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Overeem shrugs it off.

OSullivan is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Overeem defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.

OSullivan has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Overeem is trying to keep an underhook but OSullivan manages to get the takedown into half guard.

I've got OSullivan winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Chris OSullivan decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
