Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mario Eikmeyer! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Kelly Rhodes! The judges for this bout are Richard Clark, Steven Brown and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rhodes closes the distance and clinches. Rhodes lands a nice elbow from the clinch.
It looks like Mario Eikmeyer has been cut. Rhodes is pressed up against the cage. Eikmeyer has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Rhodes down to the mat. Rhodes avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance. Rhodes rushes Eikmeyer and presses him up against the cage. Eikmeyer wants a takedown but no success here.
Eikmeyer is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Rhodes pulls him back up using the underhooks. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Eikmeyer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rhodes creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Eikmeyer's defenses. Rhodes displaying some good clinch control by pressing Eikmeyer up against the cage. Eikmeyer goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rhodes prevents it.

Eikmeyer wants to advance to full mount but Rhodes doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Eikmeyer has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Eikmeyer is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rhodes looking to control.

Eikmeyer throws a strike but Rhodes avoids it easily and moves to full guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Eikmeyer wants to control from the top but Rhodes keeps moving. Eikmeyer passes Rhodes's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Eikmeyer seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Rhodes has recovered full guard. Eikmeyer with a nice head shot there.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Eikmeyer working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rhodes's head. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rhodes is on top in guard.
Eikmeyer is looking for a triangle but Rhodes pushes his legs off easily.
Eikmeyer is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Rhodes wanted to stand there but Eikmeyer had control of the position. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Eikmeyer is trying to control the position but Rhodes postures up. Eikmeyer throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

Eikmeyer doesn't succeed with the takedown and Rhodes counters with a lovely straight right hand! Eikmeyer tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rhodes swivels and escapes. Eikmeyer shoots in for a takedown but Rhodes shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Eikmeyer. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rhodes pushes Eikmeyer up against the cage in a clinch. Rhodes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. No luck with that takedown attempt from Eikmeyer. Kelly Rhodes is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Rhodes closes the distance and pushes Eikmeyer back into the cage. Eikmeyer wants to take the fight to the mat but Rhodes manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch. Rhodes crunches a lovely knee into Eikmeyer's ribcage. Rhodes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rhodes instigates a clinch. Rhodes gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Eikmeyer misses with a takedown attempt - Rhodes sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Eikmeyer with a poor takedown and Rhodes counters with a head kick. That will keep Eikmeyer thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! An inside leg kick lands from Rhodes. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rhodes forces Eikmeyer back against the cage and clinches. Eikmeyer is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Rhodes gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt. Rhodes dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage. Rhodes manages to break the clinch.
Mario Eikmeyer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rhodes drives through and clinches with Eikmeyer against the cage.

Rhodes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Rhodes slips nicely into half guard. Eikmeyer throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rhodes in particular looking to stall. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Eikmeyer flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
