Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Daniels!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Mitchell!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Daniels closes the distance and clinches up with Mitchell, looking for a takedown. Daniels pushes Mitchell against the cage but Mitchell circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Mitchell stuffs the takedown attempt from Daniels. Daniels gets slowly back to his feet.
Daniels shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Daniels. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mitchell looks to score with a jab to the body but Daniels is just out of range.
Daniels gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Daniels is looking for a triangle but Mitchell pushes his legs off easily.
Mitchell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Daniels swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Daniels controls Mitchell momentarily but Mitchell frees himself.
Mitchell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Mitchell content to sit in guard, stalling... Great. Oh but he could get punished here because Daniels has locked up a guillotine! Daniels's face is contorted as he sqeezes tight on the submission attempt - will he finish? Mitchell is holding on here and Daniels must be using up a lot of energy. Mitchell has gone limp! He's out! He's out cold! Daniels gets to his feet, tossing aside his stricken foe. Arms raised, he milks the applause from the crowd. Great submission!
