PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Todd Macon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Del Vierre (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Todd Macon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Del Vierre!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Macon shoots in and gets a takedown into Vierre's guard.
Vierre has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Macon wants to control from the top but Vierre keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Vierre looking for a sweep. Not yet Vierre, not yet.
Macon wants to control from the top but Vierre keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Todd Macon wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Macon bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Vierre tries to improve position but can't.
Vierre can't do much from the bottom here.
Macon wants to control but Vierre is keeping him busy.
Vierre is trying to control Macon's posture but Macon avoids it.
Vierre holding on.
Vierre tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Macon wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Vierre is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Macon shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Vierre is trying to defend but Macon finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Vierre is trying to get back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Macon trying to control from half guard but Vierre is working away.
Macon will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Vierre wants to improve his position but Macon is controlling well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Macon tries to pass to full mount but Vierre defends it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Todd Macon.
The fight stays on the outside here - Macon looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Macon moves into the clinch.
Vierre jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Macon walks away with a smile on his face. Vierre gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Macon tries to clinch up but Vierre circles away and keeps his distance.
Macon tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Macon wants to clinch.
Macon misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Todd Macon dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



A momentary lapse in concentration from Macon enables Vierre to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Macon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Vierre connects with a couple of short punches.

Macon looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Vierre is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Macon is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Macon has escaped and now he's on top!

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Vierre looking to hit a scissor sweep but Macon is one step ahead there.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Vierre has managed to clinch.
Vierre is trying to drag Macon to the mat but Macon just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Macon tries to circle away but Vierre has him pinned against the cage.
Vierre has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Macon is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vierre is trying to pull guard but Macon has him pressed against the cage.
Todd Macon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Del Vierre.
Macon is trying to maintain a safe position but Vierre gets an underhook and turns Macon into the cage.
Macon just leaning against Vierre, taking a breather.
Vierre is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Macon pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Vierre gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Macon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Vierre throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Macon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Vierre wants to pass the guard but Macon is keeping the position.

Macon looking for a sweep. Not yet Macon, not yet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vierre throws a big elbow that misses.

Macon is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Vierre wants to pass the guard but Macon is keeping the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Vierre is in close to Macon's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Macon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Del Vierre showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



Vierre closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Macon's guard.
Vierre in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vierre stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Macon swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Vierre is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Vierre stands up and waves to Macon to follow him.
Vierre slips a straight right by Macon.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Vierre bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Vierre.
Vierre tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vierre moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.

Vierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Vierre throws an elbow but Macon slips to the side and avoids it well.
Vierre lands a decent elbow from side control.

Vierre working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Del Vierre has got the better of the ground game so far.
Vierre in side control, throwing shots but Macon defends.

Macon is trying to improve his position.
An elbow from Vierre crashes against the mat.
Vierre content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Vierre tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Vierre has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Macon is trying to improve his position.
Macon is not content to let Vierre control the position.
Vierre grinds an elbow into Macon's temple.
Macon struggling a bit here.

Vierre thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Macon is trying to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Vierre working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Macon being controlled for a moment.

Vierre decides to stand back up.

Vierre looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Macon!
Vierre cracks Macon with a big right hand but Macon just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Vierre lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Macon down.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Vierre throws a strike aimed at the side of Macon's head but Macon avoids it well.
Vierre is working Macon over with some ground and pound from side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Del Vierre comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vierre has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
