Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeff Wood! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quinton Jackson! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Colin Fray and Paul Gruel.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wood moves away from the strike by Jackson. Wood throws a wild combination but nothing lands. No joy there for Wood, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jackson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Wood throws a leg kick but Jackson checks it. Wood tries to keep at a distance but Jackson has taken the fight into the clinch. Wood with a knee to the head.
Wood drops down looking for an ankle pick but Jackson pulls his leg out and moves away.
Wood misses with a double jab.
Wood gets caught flat footed, as Jackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Jackson landing some decent shots from guard. Jackson throws a big right hand that misses. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Wood preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wood looking for a sweep. Not yet Wood, not yet. Wood is adopting a defensive guard. Jackson with a flurry of punches that miss. The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Quinton Jackson. Wood tries to clinch but Jackson is having none of it. Wood throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Jackson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wood gets caught flat footed, as Jackson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Wood escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Wood looking to control.
Jackson works a leg free and moves into half guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson content to control rather than advance. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Wood is trying to stand.
Wood moves into full guard.
Jackson landing with the ground and pound. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Jackson postures up and lands a big shot to Wood's brow.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wood wants to stand up but Jackson is controlling him. Wood looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jackson passes into half guard.
Jackson is nestled in close to Wood, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Jackson looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Wood wants to get back to his feet. Jackson is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Wood defends it well. Ground and pound from Jackson.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jackson is keen to just control but Wood is a slippery customer. Wood missing with punches from the bottom.
Wood is looking to control Jackson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Wood avoid being mounted? Jackson wants to control but Wood is keeping him busy. Wood tries to roll over but Jackson keeps him under control. This has been an exciting period of action! Jackson lands with a punch from half guard. Wood is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Jackson working over Wood with some ground and pound. Wood looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Jackson working Wood over with strikes. Jackson scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Jackson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wood keeps working.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Jackson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Jackson lands a big elbow - Wood is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Jackson!
