The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fairtex pulls out of a head kick attempt.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Fairtex bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shawn's guard.
Fairtex wants to get up but he can't break Shawn's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Shawn is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Shawn looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Shawn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fairtex swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Fairtex working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Shawn doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Shawn manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Fairtex escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Shawn gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Rob Shawn wasn't active enough on the ground.
