Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Fernando Martinez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ed Frettish!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez slips a jab and a cross from Frettish.
Martinez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frettish sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Martinez somewhat.
Frettish moves out of range of the body kick.
Martinez tries to close the distance and clinch up but Frettish swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Martinez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Frettish sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
A shot to the body from Martinez misses
enabling Frettish to counter with a crisp jab.
Martinez shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fernando Martinez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Frettish scores with the left hand. Martinez knows he should have avoided that one.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Martinez moves into range and clinches up with Frettish.
Frettish wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Martinez has him pressed against the cage.
Frettish is looking to break free of the clinch but Martinez has double underhooks.

Martinez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Frettish punishes Martinez's body with a nice straight punch.
Martinez misses the shot to the body.
Ed Frettish is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Martinez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Martinez turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Martinez wants to stand but Frettish has his arm trapped.
Frettish managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Martinez.
Martinez tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Frettish tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Martinez tries to move to mount but Frettish blocks the move with his legs.
Martinez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Frettish really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Martinez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Martinez is looking to take a break and control but Frettish is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Fernando Martinez.
Frettish uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Fernando Martinez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Frettish counters with a crisp right hand that drops Martinez! Frettish lets Martinez back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Martinez is rocked!


It looks like Fernando Martinez has been cut.
Martinez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Frettish tries to avoid it but Martinez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Frettish to the ground. Frettish escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Martinez misses with a double jab
and Frettish counters with a stiff right hand.
Martinez is breathing heavily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Martinez.
Frettish is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Frettish catches Martinez with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Martinez forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Ed Frettish!
