PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kaz Yago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John White (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaz Yago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 26 - 0, fighting out of New York, John White!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yago takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Yago gets caught flat footed, as White shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

White has gone for a leg lock! Yago slips out almost immediately though and dives into White's guard.

White is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Yago wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.

Yago avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Yago drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Yago jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Yago is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
White wants to hit a switch here but Yago passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for White there!
White trying desperately to get to his feet.
Yago sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

White squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Yago controlling from mount.
Yago trying to control but he's not successful this time.
White is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Yago tries to control but White wriggling away.

Yago gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!
White uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Yago.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Yago jabs White to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Yago throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Yago throws a right hand that White ducks under and follows up with a left that White also avoids with ease.
Yago comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Yago. Those never looked like landing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

White shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Yago makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Yago.
White throwing strikes but missing.
Yago looking to control.
Yago wants to sweep here but White controlling him for the moment.
Yago not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
White must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
White throws a big right hand that misses.
White pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Yago is keeping the position for now.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Yago is on top in guard.

White working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Yago doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Yago manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Yago wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.
White is looking to stand back up but Yago counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by White.
White is refusing to be controlled, as Yago sits in half guard.

White is defending against the submission attempts here by Yago.
White really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yago. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

White looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
White tries to roll over but Yago keeps him under control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yago is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so White is just riding it out for now. Yago eventually gives up the hold.
White is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Yago content to control rather than advance.
White tries to get to full guard but Yago has control of the leg.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Yago moves into full mount! White won't be happy about that!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
White is working to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kaz Yago dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



White rushes Yago and presses him up against the cage.

White drags the fight down to the ground.

White is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Yago defends well.

White working for submissions but it's allowed Yago to get to half guard.

White is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Yago pulls his head out easily.
Yago content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
White is staying active underneath Yago, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
White wants to get back to full guard.

Yago wants to work for an arm triangle but White is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Yago is working for a submission of some sort.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Yago is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, White has managed to free his arm - good work.
White trying to get back to full guard but Yago takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
White is looking to improve his position but Yago isn't that keen on the idea.

Yago stands up from mount. Strange move.
A combination from Yago does no damage.
White slips under a jab.

White closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
White with the ground and pound but Yago regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
White wants to stand but Yago has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Yago looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Yago trying to control from the bottom.

White is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Yago sees it coming and defends easily.

Yago is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but White pulls his head out easily.

Yago looking for submissions off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
White throws a strike but Yago avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
White throws an elbow that misses. Yago uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in White's guard. Nice move by Yago!

White is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Yago wants to control from the top but White keeps moving.
Yago is stalling in the full guard.

White is looking for a triangle but Yago pushes his legs off easily.
White wants to get back to his feet but Yago is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

White looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Yago passes into side control.
White is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Yago tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Yago has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Yago has hold of White's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! White tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Yago cranks the arm and White screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from White, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:35 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Kaz Yago!
