Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Ronald!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Jones!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Leandro Rodrigues and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ronald will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Jones lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Ronald circles away quickly and effectively.
Ronald fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jones avoids it really well and circles away.
Chris Ronald seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Ronald fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Ronald is trying to buck Jones off.
Ronald gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Ronald wants to control but Jones is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Jones trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ronald's guard.
Ronald has control of Jones's left arm, preventing Jones from doing any damage.

Ronald is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Ronald has his foot on Jones's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Jones works his way back into a safe position though.

Ronald unloads with some shots from mount but Jones bucks and avoids them well.

That was a close round but I would say that Chris Ronald will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Ronald shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Ronald showed some decent athleticism there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jones pulls Ronald in close to prevent any damage.
Ronald prevents Jones from getting back to his feet.

We're going to have a standup here because Chris Ronald wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Jones walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Ronald checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Ronald seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Jones throws a strike but Ronald rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Ronald shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ronald's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ronald. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ronald takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Ronald throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Jones stands up.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ronald will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Jones looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Jones misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ronald.
Ronald showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jones.
Ronald tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A bone on bone clash there as Ronald blocks the leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones is trying to force a seperation but Ronald has the dominant position.
Jones has had enough of the clinch but Ronald keeps him there for the moment.

Ronald has hold of one of Jones's legs. Jones is fighting the takedown attempt but Ronald gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Ronald off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.
Ronald has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Jones's body.

Ronald closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Ronald pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Danga de danga de dang - Jones scores with a four punch combination!

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Chris Ronald.
I think Ronald has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
