Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Webster! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hopkin Hopkins! The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Webster avoids the head kick by Hopkins.
A jab lands there for Webster. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hopkins is defended easily by Webster. Hopkins shoots in and drives through. Webster sprawls well. A lazy left from Webster finds it's target. Webster scores with a body shot.
Webster lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Webster lands with a right hand. Webster is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range. Hopkins on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Hopkins shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Webster pinned against the cage. Webster gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. John Webster has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hopkin Hopkins. Webster lands a nice hook to Hopkins's body. Hopkins takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Hopkins shoots in looking for a takedown. Webster tries to sprawl out of it but Hopkins keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Webster manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hopkins has his takedown stuffed and Webster counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Webster feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hopkinss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Hopkins shoots in and drives through. Webster sprawls well. Webster keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Hopkins looks winded! Nice shot by Webster. Webster fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Hopkins checks it well. Nice straight punches there by Webster. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Webster. John Webster is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Webster circles away from the clinch attempt.
Webster digs a good body shot into Hopkins's ribs. Webster feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hopkinss jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist! Webster lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hopkins is rocked! BOOM! Webster lands a beautiful left hook that drops Hopkins. Hopkins tries to recover but Webster is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Hopkins lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
