Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jaanis Paukshtello! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Sulpizio! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sloppy strikes from Sulpizio. Those never looked like landing. Paukshtello is trying hard to land a takedown here. Sulpizio sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Terry Sulpizio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sulpizio smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. Sulpizio lands with an uppercut that bounces Paukshtello off the cage and back into range. Sulpizio shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Paukshtello eats them both and turns towards Sulpizio to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo. Sulpizio lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Sulpizio uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Paukshtello has time to react. Sulpizio misses with a combination
and Paukshtello moves into the clinch. Paukshtello has Sulpizio pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Paukshtello pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Sulpizio tumbling to the mat - Paukshtello dives into Sulpizio's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Sulpizio bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Paukshtello's guard. Paukshtello is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Sulpizio is aware though and is defending well. Sulpizio drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Paukshtello manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Sulpizio has Paukshtello in his guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paukshtello trying to control but Sulpizio is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Paukshtello accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Sulpizio working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Paukshtello doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Paukshtello manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Sulpizio isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Paukshtello stacks Sulpizio on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Paukshtello! Sulpizio is trying to improve his position. Sulpizio sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Sulpizio looking for submissions off his back. Sulpizio wants to get back to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sulpizio has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Paukshtello escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Paukshtello! Sulpizio is not content to let Paukshtello control the position. Sulpizio manages to work his way to half guard, despite Paukshtello's best efforts. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sulpizio is not content to let Paukshtello control the position. Paukshtello stalling. Paukshtello prevents Sulpizio from improving his position. Paukshtello seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Jaanis Paukshtello wasn't doing enough on the ground. Sulpizio scores with a nice right hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paukshtello shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Sulpizio sprawls well. Sulpizio wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Paukshtello gets slowly back to his feet. Sulpizio connects with a good right hand that stumbles Paukshtello. Paukshtello circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Paukshtello on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Paukshtello is rocked! Sulpizio lands with a right that hurts Paukshtello. Paukshtello looks to clinch but Sulpizio throws a short knee that drops Paukshtello. This one is all over!
