Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alex Karelin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Branko Dalibor! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dalibor looks to land a combination but Karelin avoids it well. Karelin shoots in looking for a takedown. Dalibor tries to sprawl out of it but Karelin keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Dalibor manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Karelin works the jab nicely. Karelin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Karelin misses with the combination.
Dalibor throws a left and a right that both miss
and Karelin counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Dalibor! Karelin looking to control but Dalibor is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Dalibor really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Karelin will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Karelin landing strikes, looking to finish! Karelin has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Dalibor tries to lock up and control but Karelin gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Karelin landing shots from mount. Dalibor is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Dalibor is wriggling around trying to escape.
Dalibor taking shots to the head. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Karelin looking to control but Dalibor is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Karelin in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Dalibor tries to reverse the position but Karelin maintains control. Karelin unloading with bombs! Karelin lands with some strikes.
Dalibor is rocked! A big strike lands for Karelin! That's really hurt Dalibor and he's turned his back - Karelin keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Karelin Jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:02 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alex Karelin!
