Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aron Chan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pete Ruent! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ruent gets caught napping as Chan dives in and scores a takedown. Ruent manages to retain guard. The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet. Chan throwing strikes from guard but Ruent blocks nicely. Chan distracts Ruent with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Chan is looking to work some ground and pound but Ruent has wrist control. Chan postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Ruent is adopting a defensive guard. Ruent trying to control the position.
Chan working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Chan drops back looking for a leg! Ruent is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ruent manages to kick Chan off! Chan jumps back into Ruent's guard. Ruent looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Chan connects with a couple of short punches. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Chan in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. This has been an exciting period of action! Chan thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Ruent is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruent avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Chan postures up in Ruent's guard and throws a big left but Ruent blocks it. Chan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ruent works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ruent is looking for a triangle but Chan pushes his legs off easily.
Chan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Chan trying to stand up but can't free himself from Ruent's guard. Chan trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Chan is looking to work some ground and pound but Ruent has wrist control. Chan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Chan wants to stand but Ruent has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Chan drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Chan jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ruent has his foot on Chan's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Chan works his way back into a safe position though. Ruent working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chan doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chan manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruent wants to sweep but no luck. Chan postures up and lands a big shot to Ruent's brow. Chan lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Ruent looking to control.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ruent can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ruent passes into half guard.

Ruent must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Ruent throwing strikes from guard but Chan blocks nicely. Chan looking for a guillotine here but Ruent defends easily.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Chan working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ruent doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ruent manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chan wants to land a leg kick but Ruent is out of range. Chan looks for a takedown but Ruent sprawls well. Ruent falls off balance throwing a combination
and Chan counters with a three punch combo that has Ruent backing up. Ruent nods at Chan to acknowledge the strikes. Chan fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Chan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Ruent counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aron Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Chan throws a right and a left that Ruent avoids nicely. Chan shoots for a double leg takedown but Ruent sprawls well. He's pushed Chan's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Chan drives through and clinches with Ruent against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ruent is trying to pull guard but Chan turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch. Ruent gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Chan.

Ruent throws a combination. Chan tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Chan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ruent moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Ruent avoids a punch combination nicely.
Ruent thows a left - swing and a miss! Nice takedown defense from Ruent. No joy for Chan on that attempt. Chan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ruent throws a big shot that misses.

Chan shoots in but Ruent avoids the takedown attempt easily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Ruent throws a jab but it's blocked by Chan. Aron Chan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Chan shoots and misses and Ruent counters with a right hand to the body. Chan avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Chan takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Pete Ruent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Chan fails with the takedown and Ruent counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Chan shoots in looking for a takedown but Ruent manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Chan's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aron Chan. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ruent smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. This has been an exciting period of action! Chan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Aron Chan overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Ruent content to control rather than advance. Ruent missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Ruent is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
