Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Appleton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Burt Bedlan! The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Steve Montenegro and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Appleton. Bedlan looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Nice sprawl there from Bedlan as Appleton shoots in. Appleton tries for a takedown but Bedlan sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jason Appleton. That's going to take a lot out of him. Appleton shoots for a double leg takedown but Bedlan sprawls well. He's pushed Appleton's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Appleton throws a right and a left that Bedlan avoids nicely. Appleton dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Bedlan. That did some damage! Appleton shoots in for a takedown but Bedlan shows good takedown defense. Appleton shoots in but Bedlan avoids the takedown attempt easily. Appleton scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Appleton closes the distance and clinches up with Bedlan, looking for a takedown. Appleton pushes Bedlan against the cage but Bedlan circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Bedlan looks for a takedown but Appleton sprawls well. Appleton tries for a takedown but Bedlan circles away easily and Bedlan moves into the clinch. Appleton looking to slow down the pace here. A bit of stalling here from Bedlan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bedlan pulls guard. Appleton wants to stand but Bedlan has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Appleton working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Appleton lands a couple of elbows. Appleton will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Appleton looking to pass the guard. Bedlan thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Appleton distracts Bedlan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Appleton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Appleton wants to stand but Bedlan is controlling his posture from full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Bedlan circles away from the clinch attempt and Bedlan holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Appleton landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Appleton tries a body shot but Bedlan blocks it.
Appleton looking for a takedown. Appleton is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Bedlan pulls him back up using the underhooks. Bedlan wants a takedown but no success here.
Appleton has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bedlan is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet. Bedlan gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Appleton.
Appleton changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Bedlan fights it off and pushes away nicely.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Bedlan tries to close the distance and clinch up but Appleton swats him away and circles back towards the center. Appleton with a poor takedown and Bedlan counters by moving into the clinch. Appleton breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Appleton changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bedlan tries to avoid it but Appleton manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bedlan to the ground. Bedlan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Bedlan circles away from the clinch attempt and Bedlan counters with a nice double leg into side control. Appleton won't be happy with that. Bedlan trying to control the action but Appleton is working from the bottom. Appleton tries to escape but Bedlan is in control. Appleton can't do much from the bottom here. Bedlan staying calm.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Appleton is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Appleton misses with a strike from the bottom. Appleton manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Appleton is keen to just control but Bedlan is a slippery customer. Bedlan is looking for a sweep. Appleton is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bedlan can do anything to dispel that myth. Bedlan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Burt Bedlan dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Bedlan decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Appleton manages to get to full guard.
Appleton wants to stand and escape but Bedlan is having none of it. Appleton bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bedlan's guard. Appleton tries to stand but Bedlan is controlling from the bottom. Appleton stands up over Bedlan, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Bedlan uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Appleton is looking to clinch but Bedlan is avoiding it.

That's one minute gone in the round. Appleton tries to close the distance and clinch up but Bedlan swats him away and circles back towards the center. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Appleton shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Bedlan counters by moving into the clinch. Bedlan can't get the takedown.
Bedlan tries a body shot but Appleton blocks it.
Bedlan tries to land knees in the clinch but Appleton avoids the damage to the body. Appleton tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Bedlan has picked Appleton up - he's going for a ride! Bedlan dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Appleton regains full guard. Nicely done. Appleton manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Appleton pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Appleton scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Bedlan?
Bedlan is rocked! BOOM! Appleton connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Bedlan is still in real trouble! Can Appleton finish him? Appleton drops a big elbow. That's hurt Bedlan! More shots from Appleton and the ref steps in! The fight is over!
