PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jorge Junior (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mateus Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jorge Junior!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Mateus Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range.
Gracie cracks Junior with a good jab.


It looks like Jorge Junior has been cut.
Gracie lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Junior takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Gracie connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Junior checks a low kick from Gracie.
Gracie misses with a body kick.
Gracie fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Junior has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Junior takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
A head kick misses from Junior.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Junior moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Gracie moves forwards but Junior connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Junior gets off balance looking for a body kick
and Gracie counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Gracie misses with a hook. Junior ducked under it nicely.
Junior moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
Gracie throws a leg kick that misses.

Junior does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Junior ducks under a wild hook from Gracie.
Junior throws a push kick but Gracie slaps the foot to one side.
Junior tries to work over Gracie's front leg with a kick but Gracie checks it.

Gracie fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Junior looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Junior ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.

Mateus Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Junior keeps working.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mateus Gracie wasn't active enough on the ground.

Junior throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Gracie fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Gracie throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Junior.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Junior scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Gracie doesn't seem bothered though.

Gracie keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Junior throws a nice outside leg kick.

Junior throws out a loose jab but Gracie uses good head movement to avoid it.

Junior fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Gracie.
Gracie shoots for a double leg takedown but Junior sprawls well. He's pushed Gracie's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Gracie throws a looping overhand right but Junior ducks down to avoid it.

Gracie throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Junior because Gracie loaded up on that one.

Mateus Gracie showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Junior finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Junior is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Junior moves away.

Jorge Junior has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Gracie utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Gracie feints and then cracks Junior's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Junior down.

Gracie throws a wild body kick that Junior sees coming a mile off.
Junior waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Gracie.

Mateus Gracie is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Junior is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gracie.
Junior buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Well Gracie has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
