Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, KJ Talley! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erkki Vieri! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Bruno Lombardi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vieri tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Talley connects with a solid leg kick. A left and a right from Talley both land. Nice combination. Vieri misses with an attempted mid kick.
Vieri fails with an attempt to clinch.
Vieri looks to score with a jab to the body but Talley is just out of range. Vieri catches Talley with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong! Talley uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Vieri. Erkki Vieri seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Talley connects with a body shot. Talley doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Talley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Vieri throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Talley misses with a low kick. Vieri shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Vieri was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Vieri working away. Vieri works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Talley struggling a bit here. Vieri creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Talley is looking for a sweep. Talley dodges the ground and pound from Vieri. Talley is looking to regain half guard here but Vieri keeps moving and retains side control. Talley gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Vieri throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Talley to regain full guard. Vieri must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Talley working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Vieri. Vieri looking to pass the guard. Talley controls Vieri momentarily but Vieri frees himself. Vieri stands and throws Talley's legs to the side, diving into side control. Vieri connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Talley some visible discomfort.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Talley manages to get back to half guard. Vieri is looking to pass Talley's guard but actually Talley recovers to full guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Talley looking for a guillotine here but Vieri defends easily.
Vieri is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Talley keeping moving, preventing Vieri from controlling successfully. Vieri landing some decent shots from guard. Vieri advances position into side control! Vieri working the head and body with strikes. Vieri working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Talley gets back to half guard. Vieri takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Vieri missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Vieri wants to lay and pray for a moment but Talley keeps working. Talley looking for submissions off his back. Vieri lands with a punch from half guard. Vieri trying to control the action but Talley is working from the bottom. The fighters are battling for position here. Talley manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Vieri postures up in Talley's guard and throws a big left but Talley blocks it. Vieri trying to control but Talley is working from the bottom. Vieri works over Talley with some ground and pound from guard. Talley is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Talley looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Vieri wants to control from the top but Talley keeps moving. Talley is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Erkki Vieri dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Talley takes a shot right to the bread basket. Talley misses with a head kick.
A shot to the body from Vieri misses and Talley connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. The fight stays on the outside here - Vieri looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Vieri clinches up against the cage. Vieri misses with a short punch on the inside. Vieri misses with some punches.
Vieri throws a punch but it's blocked by Talley. Vieri stalling in the clinch but Talley improves position. Vieri misses with some punches.
Vieri has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Talley is trying to keep an underhook but Vieri manages to get the takedown into half guard. Vieri drops an elbow to the side of Talley's head. Talley manages to get to full guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Vieri lands a couple of decent looking shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vieri stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Talley swivels though and keeps the full guard. Vieri passes Talley's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Vieri throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Vieri with the ground and pound but Talley uses the opportunity to regain guard. Vieri wants to control from the top but Talley keeps moving. Vieri with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Vieri's corner is telling him to maintain position. Vieri scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Talley is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Talley is trying to control the position but Vieri postures up. Vieri stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Talley has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Vieri manages to get his head free but now Talley has transitioned to an armbar! Vieri grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Talley! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
