The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ablett closes the distance and pushes Starr back into the cage. Ablett pulls Starr into guard.
Starr with a flurry of punches that miss. Starr stopping the sweep attempt from Ablett. Ablett wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Gary Ablett. Starr gets a double leg takedown into Ablett's guard. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Starr trying to control the position from guard on top but Ablett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Starr shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ablett defends it nicely. Starr misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ablett scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Starr moves in looking to clinch but Ablett pushes him off. Ablett closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Starr is trying to get back to full guard. Starr is trying to stand back up but Ablett is controlling him
