Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brent Carbinson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stu Grounder (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brent Carbinson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Stu Grounder!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carbinson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Grounder's waist but Grounder gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Carbinson off to one side.
Carbinson misses with a jab, cross combination.
Carbinson shoots for a takedown but Grounder saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Grounder closes the distance and clinches.
Carbinson is trying to stall.

Carbinson is fighting off a takedown attempt but Grounder is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Carbinson to the mat. Carbinson regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Grounder sitting in guard here, content to control.

Grounder gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Grounder instigates a clinch.
A right hand to the body from Carbinson.
Grounder tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carbinson smiles and moves away.
Grounder moves in looking to clinch but Carbinson pushes him off.

Carbinson scores with a takedown into Grounder's guard.
Grounder wants to get back to his feet but Carbinson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Carbinson trying to control but Grounder is working from the bottom.
Carbinson lands a couple of digs.
Carbinson wanted to stand there but Grounder had control of the position.
Grounder is looking to stand up but Carbinson isn't so interested in that idea.
Grounder bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Carbinson's guard.
Carbinson is breathing heavily.
Grounder tries to free his leg and advance position but Carbinson is retaining full guard.
Grounder content to stall in guard here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Grounder wants to stand but Carbinson has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Grounder's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Grounder lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Grounder with a flurry of punches that miss.
Grounder slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Grounder connects with a couple of short punches.
Carbinson will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carbinson is working an open guard so Grounder takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Grounder.
Carbinson is not content to let Grounder control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grounder working the head and body with strikes.
Grounder works to advance to full mount. Carbinson defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Grounder controlling the pace for now.
Let's hope that Grounder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stu Grounder dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.


Carbinson fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A head kick misses from Carbinson.

Grounder closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Grounder lands in his opponent's guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Grounder tries to stand but Carbinson is controlling from the bottom.
Grounder stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Carbinson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carbinson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Carbinson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Grounder controls the pace.
Grounder would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Grounder slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Despite being in the dominant position, Stu Grounder just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Carbinson fails with the takedown

and Grounder counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Grounder jumps into guard, dragging Carbinson to the mat.
Grounder seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Grounder wants to stand up but Carbinson is controlling him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Grounder has his hands on Carbinson's head, controlling the position.
Grounder wants to sweep here but Carbinson controlling him for the moment.
Grounder wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Carbinson stops Grounder from standing up.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Grounder can do anything to dispel that myth.
Grounder seems keen to control Carbinson's posture.

Grounder wants to stand up but Carbinson is controlling him.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Carbinson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Grounder to the mat! Grounder manages to get full guard.
Grounder wants to sweep here but Carbinson controlling him for the moment.
Carbinson is fighting to break Grounder's control of his arms but Grounder is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Carbinson won't allow Grounder to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Grounder wants to control but Carbinson passes easily into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Stu Grounder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Grounder scores with a three punch combo!

Grounder has taken the fight to the clinch.
Grounder throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Carbinsons head.
Carbinson is working for a takedown up against the ropes. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Carbinson is looking to control Grounder's arms but Grounder gets an underhook and turns him. Now Carbinson has his back to the ropes.

Carbinson manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Grounder seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Grounder gets to his feet. Carbinson looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Grounder keeps control of Carbinson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Grounder lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Carbinson.

Grounder has had enough of the clinch but Carbinson keeps him there for the moment.

Grounder goes for a takedown attempt but Carbinson pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Grounder moves into range and clinches up with Carbinson.
Carbinson tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Grounder's elbow.
Grounder manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Grounder can't get the takedown.
Carbinson using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Grounder has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Grounder wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Grounder tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Brent Carbinson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stu Grounder.

Grounder has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Carbinson regains guard immediately.

Grounder is looking to stand up but Carbinson won't let him.
Carbinson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Grounder controls the pace.

Grounder gets to his feet - Carbinson follows without any prompting.
Carbinson misses with a combination
and Grounder counters with a stiff right hand.

Grounder clinches up with Carbinson and pushes him back against the ropes.
Grounder stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

A left hand lands to the body for Grounder.
Carbinson tries to pull guard but Grounder holds him up against the ropes and eventually Carbinson drops back down to his feet.
Grounder lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Carbinson or not.
Grounder drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Grounder takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

With the fighters clinched against the ropes, Grounder creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Grounder prevents a takedown attempt there.
Grounder has Carbinson pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Carbinson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Grounder is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Carbinson is looking to control Grounder's arms but Grounder gets an underhook and turns him. Now Carbinson has his back to the ropes.
Carbinson drops down looking for an ankle pick but Grounder pulls his leg out and moves away.
Carbinson avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Stu Grounder comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Grounder has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
