Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
22 - 22 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Josh Ferguson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Bedford! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Ferguson or perhaps it was just good defense by Bedford which made him look bad. Bedford is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Ferguson tries to clinch up but Bedford circles away and keeps his distance. Ferguson shoots in looking for a takedown. Bedford tries to sprawl out of it but Ferguson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bedford manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bedford. Ferguson scores with a three punch combo!
Ferguson scores to the head and body with a nice combination! Ferguson throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Bedford. Bedford throws the kick towards the body but Ferguson avoids it. Ferguson shoots for a takedown but Bedford saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Josh Ferguson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Ferguson gets in close and instigates a clinch. Bedford gets a trip takedown into half guard. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Bedford is trying to control the action in half guard but Ferguson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bedford tries to stand and escape but Ferguson actually recovers to full guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Bedford wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Ferguson's closed guard. He's half up but Ferguson has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Ferguson pivots and extends the arm, Bedford falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Ferguson! Well done that man!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:38 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Josh Ferguson! Post fight, Josh Ferguson took to the microphone: 'I new coming in he was gonna be tough. But tonight I was tougher. We need a flyweight division! Do it! Make it happen please. (16-14-1)'.
