Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Frank Trig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Werben (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Werben has chosen Ghost of Tom Joad as his entrance music. Frank Trig has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Trig! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Werben! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A looping hook to the body misses from Trig. Werben does a little dance to reset his feet. Trig gets tackled into the cage by Werben. Werben maintains the clinch. Trig drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Werben gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Trig is trying to pull guard but Werben has him pressed against the cage. Werben's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Werben moves in looking to clinch but Trig pushes him off. Werben is looking to slow Trig down with leg kicks. A chopping leg kick lands by Werben. Werben misses with a head kick.
Werben tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Trig manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Werben throws a head kick that misses. Trig gets a clinch. Trig can't break the clinch.
Trig is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Werben lands a knee to the head.

Trig on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Trig instigates a clinch. Trig manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Trig seems keen to control Werben's posture. Trig keeping moving, preventing Werben from controlling successfully. Trig is looking to stand up but Werben isn't so interested in that idea. Trig takes the fight into the clinch. Trig jumps guard but Werben turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Trig. That's going to take a lot out of him. Trig is trying to trip Werben. He has hold of a leg but Werben is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Trig persists though and gets the takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Werben wants to get back to his feet but Trig is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Trig might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Werben throwing strikes off his back to little effect.

John Werben has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Werben throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Trig's head. Werben throws a body kick that misses. Trig misses with a series of wild punches.
Werben scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Trig doesn't seem bothered though. Werben lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Trig misses with a double jab.

Werben tries to close the distance and clinch but Trig swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Werben looks to clinch and Trig counters into the clinch. Nicely done. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Werben effectively controlling the action here. Werben tries to land knees in the clinch but Trig avoids the damage to the body.

A frustrated look appears on Trig's face as he tries to break the clinch. Trig has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Werben after a bit of a struggle. Werben connects with a knee to the head.

Trig avoids a wild elbow strike from Werben. Werben has Trig pressed against the cage, preventing Trig from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Trig blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Werben lands a knee to the body.
Werben is trying to maintain a safe position but Trig gets an underhook and turns Werben into the cage. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Werben throws a knee to the head but misses.

Trig will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Werben throws a head kick that Trig semi-blocks.

John Werben is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Trig tries to score a power double leg takedown but Werben sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Trig somewhat. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Trig. That's going to take a lot out of him. Werben delivers a nice body kick. Trig takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Werben throws a series of punches but Trig avoids them all with ease. Trig takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. Werben tries a knee to the head but he's missed.

Werben is trying to push Trig away but Trig has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. With the two fighters working up against the cage, Werben just misses with a elbow thrown towards Trig's brow. Trig breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Trig.
Werben connects with a leg kick. Trig looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it. Werben throws a head kick that misses.

With the fighters up against the cage, Werben throws an elbow but misses. Trig lands on the inside with an uppercut. Werben looking to throw knees to the head but Trig is blocking nicely.

Trig shoots in looking for a takedown but Werben manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Trig's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Trig looks to land a combination but Werben avoids it well. Werben thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Trig if he has to take too many more of those.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Trig has hold of one of Werben's legs. Werben is fighting the takedown attempt but Trig gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Werben wants to stand up but Trig is controlling him. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Werben is pulling down on Trig's head. It's preventing any offense from Trig, at least for the moment. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Werben is trying to control the position from the bottom.

John Werben showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Trig smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. John Werben seems to be getting the better of the standup. Werben throws a nice inside leg kick. Werben tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Werben throws a head kick but Trig moves out of range.
Frank Trig is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Werben goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. No joy there for Werben, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Werben takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Werben clinches up with Trig and pushes him back against the cage. Werben escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Werben tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Trig gets in close and instigates a clinch. Trig is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Werben pulls him back up using the underhooks. Werben's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Werben lands a leg kick that knocks Trig off balance momentarily. A slapping body kick lands there for Werben. Trig is looking to wear down Werben with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Horrible takedown by Trig or perhaps it was just good defense by Werben which made him look bad. John Werben seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Trig takes a head kick and shrugs it off.

Werben throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Trig takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

Trig throws a hook to the side of Werben's head but Werben sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Werben gets caught napping as Trig dives in and scores a takedown. Werben manages to retain guard. Werben is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Trig dives into side control.
A lull in the action here. Werben wants to control but Trig postures up. Trig is trying to get an arm triangle but Werben is defending well. Werben is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Werben wants to get back to his feet. Werben manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Trig wants to control but Werben is keeping busy and won't allow it. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Werben tries to pass the half guard into mount. Trig knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Werben is thwarting Trig's attempts to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Werben misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Werben is fighting the takedown attempt but Trig gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard. Werben wants to stand and escape but Trig is having none of it. Werben is trying to hold Trig in close to prevent damage but Trig has managed to pass into half guard.
