Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Dan Henderson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, James Burke! The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Daniel Blasius and Nard Betker.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henderson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Burke as he avoids it easily. Dan Henderson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Henderson swings for the body but Burke moves out of range.
Burke stuffs the takedown attempt from Henderson. Henderson gets slowly back to his feet. Henderson misses with a wild body shot. Henderson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Burke.
Burke leaves Henderson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dan Henderson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Nice uppercut lands for Burke. That snapped Henderson's head back.
It looks like Dan Henderson has been cut. Burke leaves Henderson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Henderson throws a lazy right hand but Burke sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Henderson is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Burke. Burke lands a body shot.
Henderson shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Henderson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Burke.
Burke lets loose with a powerful body kick. Henderson will feel that in the morning. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Burke gets a double leg takedown into Henderson's guard. Henderson is breathing heavily. Burke pushing down on Henderson's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Burke seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Burke throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Burke is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Henderson defends it well. Burke is trying for a kimura here. Henderson looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Burke wins by kimura!
