Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Daniel Alexander! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mike Mollo! The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alexander misses with a straight right. Mollo shoots in for a takedown but Alexander shows good takedown defense. Mollo fails with the takedown. Mollo fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Daniel Alexander has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mike Mollo. Mollo slips a straight right by Alexander. Alexander throws a big shot that misses. Mollo with a lazy takedown attempt and Alexander cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Mollo shoots for a takedown but Alexander saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Mollo shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Alexander counters with a stiff right hand. Mollo on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Alexander throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alexander lands a nice hook to Mollo's body. Mollo takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Mollo misses with a takedown attempt - Alexander sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Mollo has closed the distance and engaged Alexander in a clinch.
Mollo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Alexander after a bit of a struggle. Alexander pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Daniel Alexander is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Mollo shoots in looking for a takedown. Alexander tries to sprawl out of it but Mollo keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alexander manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. A big right from Alexander misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Horrible takedown by Mollo or perhaps it was just good defense by Alexander which made him look bad. Mollo closes the distance but Alexander moves to the side and Alexander counters with a straight right hand. Alexander slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Alexander scores with a punch to the head. A swing and a miss from Alexander. Alexander fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Alexander lands the left hand. Mollo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Alexander! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Alexander is looking to reverse the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mollo in the domination position with Alexander hanging on. Mollo looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Alexander tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mollo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Mollo wants to control but Alexander is keeping him busy. Alexander wants to control but Mollo postures up. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Alexander is trying to improve his position. Mollo wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Alexander, who protects the arm well. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Mollo is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Alexander is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mollo is working to tighten is grip on Alexander's neck. He's isolated an arm and is working for an arm triangle. Alexander has recognised the danger and is trying to turn with the submission but Mollo is really squeezing tight and eventually Alexander passes out! Mollo breaks the hold and jumps onto the cage to celebrate! Submission of the night, I'd say!
