Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jussi Kyronviita! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eddy Matsui! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Marco Blurström and Matti Vanhoillinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kyronviita misses the jab. Matsui avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Matsui looks to score with a jab to the body but Kyronviita is just out of range. Kyronviita misses with a double jab.
Matsui slips a straight right by Kyronviita. Matsui just misses with a punch to the body.
Matsui takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Kyronviita lands a lovely overhand right. Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Kyronviita lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Matsui has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Matsui and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. A low kick from Matsui is predictable there and Kyronviita connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Kyronviita darts in and out, connecting with a jab. Kyronviita misses with a body kick. Kyronviita misses with an uppercut
and Matsui counters with a nice double leg into guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Kyronviita working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Matsui. Matsui throwing strikes from guard but Kyronviita blocks nicely. Kyronviita has momentary wrist control but Matsui slips an elbow through the middle.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matsui trying to control the position from guard on top but Kyronviita is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Matsui postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Matsui connects with a couple of short punches. Kyronviita trying to control the position here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kyronviita is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Matsui stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kyronviita swivels though and keeps the full guard. Matsui is looking to work some ground and pound but Kyronviita has wrist control. Kyronviita is trying to control the position but Matsui postures up. Kyronviita being controlled here, momentarily. Matsui lands a couple of elbows. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matsui postures up.
Kyronviita utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kyronviita will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Matsui trying to control but Kyronviita is working from the bottom. Matsui scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Kyronviita avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Matsui throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Matsui has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Kyronviita has an active guard here but Matsui has managed to pass into half guard.
Matsui wants to work for an arm triangle but Kyronviita is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Matsui working Kyronviita over with strikes. Kyronviita gets full guard. Matsui is in close to Kyronviita's body, working some short punches and elbows. Kyronviita is pulling down on Matsui's head. It's preventing any offense from Matsui, at least for the moment.

Matsui tries to free his leg and advance position but Kyronviita is retaining full guard. Kyronviita avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Matsui keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kyronviita's head. Matsui throws a big right hand that misses. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Matsui passes easily into side control. Nice work. Kyronviita manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Matsui drops an elbow to the side of Kyronviita's head.
Kyronviita is rocked! Matsui scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Oh Kyronviita is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Matsui passes to side control. Matsui is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Kyronviita looks calm but he's in trouble here. Matsui gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Kyronviita is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Matsui lets go of the hold and Kyronviita can pop his arm back in it's socket.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Eddy Matsui! Our winner, Eddy Matsui, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
