PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Snoop Dog (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vernon Mcllin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mcllin has chosen 300 Brolic as his entrance music. The key to victory for Snoop Dog has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vernon Mcllin!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dog shoots in for a double leg but Mcllin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jab by Dog.
Dog scores with a head kick.

Dog shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Mcllin napping and manages to drive through into side control!
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Mcllin prevents Dog from moving into mount.
Mcllin pushes Dog away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Dog gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Dog cracks Mcllin with a big right hand but Mcllin just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Mcllin is trying to get back to his feet.
Dog tries to score with some ground and pound. Mcllin controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcllin manages to work his way to half guard, despite Dog's best efforts.
Mcllin has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dog is working away from the top position though.
Mcllin might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Dog haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Dog circles away from the clinch attempt
and Dog counters with a series of strikes. Mcllin will be more careful next time no doubt.

Dog forces Mcllin back against the cage and clinches.

Mcllin's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dog really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Dog moves into the clinch.
The referee calls for Dog to work.
Mcllin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Dog's efforts to push away.
Mcllin tries to score a body lock takedown but Dog shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Dog goes for a takedown in the clinch but Mcllin prevents it.

Mcllin breaks from the clinch.

Dog shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcllin's guard.

Mcllin uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Dog closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mcllin did well to prevent Dog getting side control.

Mcllin keeps control of the position for the meantime.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Dog is looking for a kimura but Mcllin is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Dog to get the leverage.
Mcllin tries to kick Dog off but Dog keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Vernon Mcllin.
Dog looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Snoop Dog dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Mcllin tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Dog paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Dog rushes Mcllin and presses him up against the cage.

Mcllin drags the fight down to the ground.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mcllin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dog stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mcllin swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dog prevents Mcllin from getting back to his feet.
Snoop Dog overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Dog trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mcllin's guard.

Mcllin has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Dog off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Dog shoots in and drives through. Mcllin sprawls well.
No joy there for Dog, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Snoop Dog seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dog misses with a takedown

and Mcllin decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dog's guard.
Mcllin postures up and lands a big shot to Dog's brow.
Mcllin trying to control the position from guard on top but Dog is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mcllin with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.


Dog is rocked!
Dog will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dog wants to get back to his feet but Mcllin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Dog can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mcllin controls the pace.
Mcllin in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Vernon Mcllin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Dog throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Mcllin shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Mcllin scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Oh Dog is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Mcllin prevents Dog from improving his position.

Mcllin stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Dog to get to his feet.

Dog lands a jab-cross combination.

Mcllin dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Dog has had enough and taps out.
