PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Reijo Rymy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Baas Baako (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rymy comes to the cage accompanied by Imagine Dragons-On Top of the World. Baako has chosen Acapella Soul - The Lion Sleeps Tonight as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 13 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Reijo Rymy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Baas Baako!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Rymy with that takedown attempt.
No joy there for Baako, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Rymy dives in and scores a takedown into Baako's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Rymy preventing the sweep.
Rymy tries to free his leg and advance position but Baako is retaining full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rymy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rymy throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Baako wants to sweep here but Rymy controlling him for the moment.
Rymy wants to pass the guard but Baako is keeping the position.
Rymy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rymy won't allow Baako to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baako keeping full guard, as Rymy tries to pass.
Rymy working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Baako's head.
Baako tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rymy wants to stand but Baako is controlling his posture from full guard.

Rymy drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Baako dives on top into guard.

Baako avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Rymy escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Baako gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Baako got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rymy has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Baako has managed to get both his arms back between Rymy's legs - danger averted.
Rymy can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Baako controls the pace.
Baako is fighting to break Rymy's control of his arms but Rymy is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Rymy looking for subs off his back but Baako has passed one foot through into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Baako is looking to take a break and control but Rymy is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Baako content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rymy is refusing to be controlled, as Baako sits in half guard.
Rymy trying to control from the bottom.
Baako prevents Rymy from improving his position.
Baako scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Baako is trying to control. Rymy wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Rymy gets back to full guard.

Rymy has his foot on Baako's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Baako works his way back into a safe position though.
Baako chips away with some ground and pound.

Rymy working for submissions but it's allowed Baako to get to half guard.

Rymy looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baako seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rymy does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Baako tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Rymy trying to control but Baako postures up.

Rymy with the active half guard here but Baako passes nicely into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Rymy is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rymy is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Reijo Rymy dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Baako connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Rymy momentarily.
Baako fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rymy manages to avoid it.
Baako jabs Rymy right on the nose. Rymy blinks but takes it well.
Reijo Rymy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Rymy is defended easily by Baako.
Rymy has his takedown stuffed

and Baako counters with a crisp one two that drops Rymy! Baako thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Rymy to his feet! Rymy is in big trouble!


Rymy is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Baako ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Rymy's jaw. Rymy's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Baako does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:24 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Baas Baako!
During a confident post fight interview, Baas Baako thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
