Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Toney! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Eric Morris! The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Saam Ante and Daniel Blasius.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Morris throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Toney just misses with a punch to the body.
A jab from Toney misses. Toney jabs Morris to the body, keeping him at a distance. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Morris is defended easily by Toney. Morris steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Toney. Morris changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Toney tries to avoid it but Morris manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Toney to the ground. Toney escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Morris scores with a spinning back kick! Toney connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Toney misses with a hook. Morris ducked under it nicely. Toney missing with a left hand there. Morris was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Toney swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Morris takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Toney paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
That's one minute gone in the round. Toney slaps away a takedown attempt from Morris, before circling back to the center of the mat. James Toney has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Eric Morris. Toney blocks a head kick by Morris.
Morris shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Morris takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Morris fails in his attempt to clinch. Morris takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Toney crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Morris - the referee stops the clock and Toney gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Morris. Toney manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. James Toney seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Morris throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Toney's waist but Toney gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Morris off to one side. James Toney is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Morris looks winded! Morris looks for a takedown but Toney sprawls well. Toney scores with a nice head shot. Morris walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. This has been an exciting period of action! Morris tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Toney is able to avoid easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Toney stuns Morris with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Morris keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Toney. Toney lands a lovely overhand right. Toney lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Morris needs to keep his hands up - Toney had a free shot at his head there.
Morris is rocked! Toney throws a right hand that misses
and Morris counters with a head kick. That will keep Toney thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! A jab from Toney misses. Morris ducks under a wild hook from Toney. Morris gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Toney. The fighters circling - Toney throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Toney is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Morris tries to move into range but Toney moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Morris is still on wobbly legs! Can Toney finish him? Morris shoots in for a double leg but Toney sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Morris seems to have recovered his senses. Toney catches Morris with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Morris on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Morris slips a jab from Toney. Morris defending well as Toney loads up on a big left hand. Good exchange - Toney coming out on top. Toney connects with a good right hand that stumbles Morris. Morris circles away out of range and recomposes himself. A jab from Toney misses. Toney throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Toney throws the left hand but Morris avoids the punch easily. Toney lands a big uppercut and Morris crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Morris looks OK. Toney waves Morris back to his feet! The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! and Toney counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Morris! He's just covering up as Toney starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). James Toney!
