PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Devon King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ed Karate (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Devon King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ed Karate!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Phil Schofield and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by King.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
King is looking to take a break and control but Karate is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Karate manages to work his way to half guard, despite King's best efforts.
Karate moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
King wants to control from the top but Karate keeps moving.
Karate wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Karate swivels though and keeps the full guard.

King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
King trying to control but Karate is working from the bottom.
King trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
King postures up in Karate's guard and throws a big left but Karate blocks it.
King in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
King looking to sit in guard and control but Karate gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
King pulls Karate in close to prevent any damage.
Karate wants to pass the guard but King is keeping the position.
Karate distracts King with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
King manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Karate manages to get himself to full guard.
King trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
King throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Karate works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
King working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Karate is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
King throws a big elbow that misses.

King throws a strike but Karate rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Karate trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Karate is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Karate wants to control from the top but King keeps moving.
King wants to get back to his feet but Karate is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

King looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
King keeping moving, preventing Karate from controlling successfully.

Ed Karate has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Karate just misses with a punch to the body.
King with a poor takedown
enabling Karate to counter with a crisp jab.
Karate slips a jab from King.
Horrible takedown by King or perhaps it was just good defense by Karate which made him look bad.
King fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon King. That's going to take a lot out of him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Karate slaps away a takedown attempt from King, before circling back to the center of the mat.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
King walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
King avoids a punch combination nicely.
Karate misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Devon King will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Karate tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Karate to the ground. Karate escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Karate lands a body shot.
Karate looks to score with a jab to the body but King is just out of range.
King shoots in for a takedown but Karate shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

King keeping moving, preventing Karate from controlling successfully.
King wants to stand up but Karate is controlling him.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Ed Karate hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
King drops his hands momentarily and Karate takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Karate lands with a cross.
King fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Devon King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A jab from Karate does it's job there.
No joy there for Karate, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Karate tries to bum rush King with a series of wild strikes but King uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

King changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Karate fights it off and pushes away nicely.
King misses with a takedown attempt - Karate sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
King takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
King looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Karate is fending him off so far but King persists. Nope, Karate circles away and we're back to standing.

King gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Karate to score an easy takedown into full guard.

King is looking to stand up but Karate isn't so interested in that idea.
Karate is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

King is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
King is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Devon King overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Karate is trying to maintain the position but King is very close to passing his half guard.

King is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Karate doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time King.

King is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Karate has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. King is working away from the top position though.

King thows a huge punch but Karate dodges it nicely.

Ed Karate showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Karate dives in and scores a takedown into King's guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Karate accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
King tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Karate pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. King is keeping the position for now.

King has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Karate can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Karate wants to lay and pray for a moment but King keeps working.
Karate is figuring out what he wants to do next.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Karate bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of King's head.

Ed Karate comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Karate has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
