Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Cory Rua! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shichirou Kendou! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua leaves Kendou with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Kendou fails in his attempt to clinch. Rua rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Kendou counters with a straight right hand. Kendou slips a straight right by Rua. Kendou fails to land the takedown. Rua shoots in for a takedown but Kendou shows good takedown defense. Kendou misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Cory Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shichirou Kendou. Kendou tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Rua dives in and scores a takedown into Kendou's guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Kendou not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Rua passes easily into side control. Nice work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kendou managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Rua.
Kendou tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Rua wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Rua cracks Kendou with a big elbow. Rua throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. Kendou really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rua. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Rua working the head and body with strikes. Kendou is trying to improve his position. Rua lands a decent elbow from side control. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rua cracks Kendou with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Rua immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Kendou is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Rua!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Cory Rua!
