Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Zarrick Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nelson comes into the arena with Battle Hymn blaring out of the sound system. Kelly has chosen Black Belt Jones - Dennis Coffey as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kelly ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nelson moves away. Nelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Kelly avoids the head kick by Nelson.
Nelson tries to clinch but Kelly moves out of range. Nelson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Kelly counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Jim Kelly seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kelly changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nelson looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Kelly is putting a hurting on Nelson here, landing some big shots from side control. Nelson tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kelly wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Nelson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Kelly. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kelly working the body and head with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kelly is staying tight to Nelson's torso, preventing him from escaping. Nelson is looking for a sweep. Nelson taking punishment in the form of punches.
Kelly goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nelson rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Kelly's guard! Nice work there by Nelson! Kelly keeping full guard, as Nelson tries to pass.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kelly has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Nelson has managed to get both his arms back between Kelly's legs - danger averted. Kelly is adopting a defensive guard. Kelly wants to sweep but no luck. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Kelly is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelly with a flurry of punches that miss. Nelson avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Kelly trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nelson being controlled here, momentarily. Nelson keeping moving, preventing Kelly from controlling successfully.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson looking for a sweep. Not yet Nelson, not yet.
Jim Kelly has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Kelly displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Nelson. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Zarrick Nelson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kelly drives through and clinches with Nelson against the cage.
Nelson wants to take the fight to the mat but Kelly manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. Kelly jumps guard.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kelly thowing shots but they're missing. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Kelly dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Nelson misses the body punch and Kelly counters by moving into the clinch. Kelly has picked Nelson up - he's going for a ride! Kelly dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard. Kelly prevents Nelson from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kelly thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Kelly is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Kelly misses with a head shot. Nelson uses the momentum to regain guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Kelly throws a big elbow that misses. Kelly works a leg free and moves into half guard. Nelson wants to control but Kelly is keeping busy and won't allow it. Nelson is defending against the submission attempts here by Kelly.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Kelly is looking for a kimura but Nelson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kelly to get the leverage. Kelly seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Kelly looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kelly is working for a submission of some sort.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelly wants to control but Nelson is keeping him busy. Nelson wants to control but Kelly is keeping busy.
Kelly throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Kelly is looking to stall here but Nelson recovers full guard. Nelson keeping full guard, as Kelly tries to pass.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Kelly trying to control the position from guard on top but Nelson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nelson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kelly's guard. Kelly is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kelly is striking off his back. Nelson thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jim Kelly showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!
Nelson tries to clinch up. Kelly connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Nelson momentarily.
Kelly ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nelson moves away. Nelson shoots for a takedown but Kelly saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Nelson tries a head kick but it misses.
Nelson on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Nelson misses with a double jab.
Nelson looks to score with a jab to the body but Kelly is just out of range. Nelson fails to land the takedown.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nice shot by Kelly. Kelly feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Nelson wants to sweep here but Kelly controlling him for the moment. Kelly is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Kelly must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Kelly trying to control but Nelson is working from the bottom. Nelson looking for a sweep. Not yet Nelson, not yet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nelson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kelly defends it easily. Kelly looking to sit in guard and control but Nelson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Kelly holds on and takes a little breather. Nelson wants to pass the guard but Kelly is keeping the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelly thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Kelly has control of Nelson's left arm, preventing Nelson from doing any damage. Kelly is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Nelson stalling away here and it's allowed Kelly to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Jim Kelly is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Nelson won't allow Kelly to sweep him here. Kelly is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Kelly is controlling the pace.
Zarrick Nelson has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
And that's the end of the fight! Jim Kelly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Kelly has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
