1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Wanderlei Brasileiro! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Leandro Rodrigues and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brasileiro doesn't manage to clinch there - Lapuz circles away.
Lapuz looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! The fight stays on the outside here - Brasileiro looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Brasileiro fails to land the takedown. Lapuz slaps away a takedown attempt from Brasileiro, before circling back to the center of the mat. Brasileiro fails with a takedown attempt. John Lapuz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Brasileiro. Brasileiro tries a head kick but it misses.
Brasileiro is looking to clinch. Brasileiro fails with the takedown and Lapuz counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Brasileiro has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Lapuz escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Lapuz! Brasileiro is looking for a sweep.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lapuz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Brasileiro is trying to get back to half guard. Brasileiro pushes Lapuz away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lapuz gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Brasileiro is looking for a sweep. Brasileiro gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Brasileiro tries to roll over but Lapuz keeps him under control. Brasileiro actively working from the bottom here. Lapuz moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Brasileiro.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Brasileiro wants to get back to his feet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Brasileiro tries to get to full guard but Lapuz has control of the leg. Brasileiro looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Lapuz wants to stand up but Brasileiro has a hold of him and won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Wanderlei Brasileiro will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Brasileiro shoots for a takedown but Lapuz saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Brasileiro shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lapuz but Lapuz pushes him off and we're back to square one. Brasileiro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lapuz tries to avoid it but Brasileiro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lapuz to the ground. Lapuz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. John Lapuz has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Wanderlei Brasileiro. Brasileiro tries to close the distance and clinch up but Lapuz swats him away and circles back towards the center. Brasileiro tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Lapuz shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Brasileiro actively working from the bottom here. Brasileiro is trying to stand up here but Lapuz is controlling him well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
