Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Stephan Evurts!
The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Mendez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Evurts's half guard.
Evurts is looking for a sweep. Mendez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Mendez wants to pass the guard but Evurts is defending well.

Mendez controls Evurts momentarily but Evurts frees himself.
Evurts wants to control from the top but Mendez keeps moving.
Mendez has control of Evurts's left arm, preventing Evurts from doing any damage.
Mendez wants to improve his position but instead Evurts has moved into half guard.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Evurts in particular looking to stall.
Mendez wants to control but Evurts is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mendez is trying to get back to full guard.
Evurts takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Evurts is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Mendez lands with a kick to the temple. Evurts shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Mendez fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Evurts is out of range.
Mendez tests Evurts's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mendez lands with a thumping leg kick.

Evurts gets caught napping as Mendez dives in and scores a takedown. Evurts manages to retain guard.
Mendez postures up and lands a big shot to Evurts's brow.
Mendez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Mendez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Evurts is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Mendez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mendez misses with the ground and pound.

Mendez lands a slapping body shot.

and Mendez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Evurts is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mendez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Evurts's guard.
Mendez is trying to control the action in half guard but Evurts is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Mendez lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Evurts has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mendez is working away from the top position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendez is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Mendez throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Mendez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Evurts swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Mendez is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Evurts can do to turn this around?
Evurts wants to control but Mendez is keeping busy.

Mendez is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Evurts has managed to free his arm - good work.

Mendez is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Evurts sees it coming and defends easily.

and Mendez counters with a single leg into guard. Evurts didn't expect that.

Oooooh!!! Evurts has knocked Mendez down with a huge combo! Evurts steps away and waves a wobbly Mendez back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Oh Mendez is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Mendez gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Evurts points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Mendez wakes up just in time to hear Evurts thank his coaches in the post fight interview.
