PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Barry Allen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexei Surov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Surov is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Amphetamines. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Barry Allen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 23 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexei Surov!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Chris Downing and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Surov works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Allen swings for the body but Surov moves out of range.
Surov steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Allen. That one must have hurt.
Surov scores with a slapping inside leg kick.
Allen looks for the body kick but Surov saw that one coming.
Surov with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Allen to score with a decent uppercut.

Allen tries to sprawl but Surov drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Allen wants to improve his position but Surov is controlling well.

Surov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Surov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Surov throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Allen to regain full guard.
Surov with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Surov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Allen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Surov, into his guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Surov throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Surov trying to keep a closed guard but Allen is proving a slippery customer.

Surov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Allen defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Allen controls from within his opponent's guard.
Surov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Allen is one step ahead there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Surov looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Surov has his foot on Allen's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Allen works his way back into a safe position though.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Surov is on top in guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Allen fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Surov.
Surov lands a jab.
Allen shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Allen is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Surov.
Allen throws the kick towards the body but Surov avoids it.
Allen connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Surov pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Allen scores with a kick to the midsection.
Allen throws a leg kick but Surov checks it.
Allen cracks Surov with a good jab.
Surov moves out of range as Allen strikes.

That kick from Surov tenderised Allen's leg. Allen is trying to keep his angry face on.
Surov avoids a kick to the body.
Surov moves out of range of the body kick.
Surov swings for the body but Allen moves out of range.
Allen feints and then cracks Surov's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Surov down.
Allen throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Surov.


It looks like Alexei Surov has been cut.
Allen looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Surov lands a glancing blow to the side of Allen's head.
Allen misses with an attempted mid kick.
Surov slips under a jab.
Allen misses with an uppercut.
Allen throws a leg kick that misses.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Allen misses with a low kick.
Surov is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Allen ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Surov moves away.
Allen connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Surov momentarily.
Allen throws a leg kick which misses Surov's front leg but catches the back leg as Surov tries to avoid it.
Allen on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Allen feints a jab promting Surov to slip. Allen then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Surov slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Nice jab there from Surov.
Allen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Surov finds it's way round the side to connect with Allen's head.
Allen drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Surov swings and misses with a shot to the body
and Allen counters with a nice uppercut.
Barry Allen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Surov missing with a left hand there. Allen was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Surov lands a nice hook to Allen's body. Allen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Surov digs a good hook to Allen's body.
Allen fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Surov manages to avoid it.
Surov looks for a takedown but Allen sprawls well.
Barry Allen is winning the standup battle so far.
Surov checks a leg kick.
Allen misses with a straight right.
Allen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Some bone on bone action there as Surov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Allen pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Surov will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Allen looks to land a body kick but Surov moved away.
Allen dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Surov. That did some damage!
Surov looks to score with a jab to the body but Allen is just out of range.
Allen thows a body kick. Surov tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Some bone on bone action there as Surov checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Surov scores with the left hand. Allen knows he should have avoided that one.
Allen goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Allen throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Allen is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Allen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Surov sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Surov throws a lazy uppercut
and Allen counters with a solid body kick.
Allen lands a head kick. Surov smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Alexei Surov's cut.
That's time! Allen's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Allen looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Allen tries a head kick but it misses.
Surov shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Surov fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Allen manages to avoid it.

so Surov counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Allen utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Surov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Allen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Surov is stalling in the full guard.
Surov wants to pass the guard but Allen is keeping the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Alexei Surov.
Allen drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Good work by Surov as he checks the leg kick.
Good leg kick by Allen there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Allen misses with a lunging right hand

and Surov counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Allen wants to control but Surov passes into side.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Surov thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Allen struggling a bit here.
Surov trying to control the action but Allen is working from the bottom.
Surov grinds an elbow into Allen's temple.

Surov is looking to take a break and control but Allen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Allen tries to bench press Surov off him but Surov keeps the position.
Surov working the ground and pound from side control.
Surov tries to advance to mount but can't.

Surov wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Allen, who protects the arm well.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Surov swings around for an armbar but Allen sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Surov's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alexei Surov comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Surov has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
