Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ares Varens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Antonio Rutten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Ares Varens has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Ares Varens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Antonio Rutten! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rutten is looking to clinch. Rutten tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Varens manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Rutten wants to clinch and Varens cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Rutten steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Varens. Rutten tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Varens swings widly with a right hand
and Rutten holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Varens is trying to break free. Varens goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Varens throws a head punch that misses. A bit of stalling here from Rutten.
Varens takes an elbow to the temple. Rutten trying to land knees to the body.

Rutten creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Varens's defenses.
It looks like Ares Varens has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Varens scores with a hook to the body. Varens is looking to break free of the clinch but Rutten has double underhooks. Rutten lands an elbow just above Varens 's eye. Rutten takes a shot to the head. Still in the clinch, Varens scores with a nice short uppercut. Rutten misses with an elbow strike.
Rutten lands a knee to the body.
A head punch on the inside from Varens fails to land. Rutten landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
This has been an exciting period of action! Rutten being controlled against the cage. Rutten lands a glancing elbow in the clinch. Rutten lands a nice knee to the body. Varens tries to break the clinch but Rutten is controlling the position. Varens tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Rutten's elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rutten lands a good knee to the midsection. Varens won't want to take too many of those. Varens takes an elbow to the temple. Nice elbow from Rutten.
Ares Varens's cut is getting worse. Rutten trying to land knees to the body.
Rutten blocks an uppercut.
Varens is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Rutten is keeping busy. Rutten working Varens over with knees to the body. Varens is breathing heavily. Rutten is pushing Varens up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word. Varens swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Rutten blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Rutten will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Varens up against the cage. Rutten unloads a knee to the mid-section.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A head punch blocked on the inside by Rutten. Varens managing to block the knees to the body from Rutten.
Rutten gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head. I was talking to Varens's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. Rutten is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Varens is defending well for now. Rutten lands an elbow inside that Varens shrugs off. Rutten leaning against his opponent.
Rutten drops Varens with a big knee straight up the middle! Varens is covering up against the cage but manages to escape and gets back to his feet!
Varens is rocked!
Ares Varens's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Varens rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rutten counters with a huge right that knocks Varens out cold! Rutten is running around with a crazed look on his face - you can see how much that meant to him!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Antonio Rutten!
