Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
33 - 21 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Aleksander Ivanov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Pete Tippin! The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Hugh Johnson and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tippin is looking to land body kicks. Tippin cracks Ivanov with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. Ivanov looks for a takedown but Tippin sprawls well. Ivanov shoots in looking for a takedown. Tippin tries to sprawl out of it but Ivanov keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tippin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Tippin digs a good hook to Ivanov's body.
Ivanov fails miserably with a takedown attempt. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Aleksander Ivanov. That's going to take a lot out of him. Tippin manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Ivanov on his heels. He'll look to pass Ivanov's guard now, I'm sure. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Tippin trying to control but Ivanov is working from the bottom. Tippin not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Tippin lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Tippin postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Tippin not doing a lot at the moment. That's one minute gone in the round. Tippin trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Ivanov is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tippin defends well. Tippin content to stall in guard here. Tippin connects with a couple of short punches. Tippin working some strikes from top position. Tippin landing with the ground and pound. Ivanov looking for a sweep. Not yet Ivanov, not yet. Tippin scoring with punches to the head and body. Ivanov working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Tippin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Ivanov is tightening it up a little... Tippin has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Tippin reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Tippin taps out! Nice BJJ there by Ivanov!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Aleksander Ivanov! Aleksander Ivanov decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
