PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shamus McFey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tarquin Fortune (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Fortune's choice of entrance music: Going the Distance - Bill Conti . The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shamus McFey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tarquin Fortune!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, John Roberts and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fortune dives in and grabs McFey's left leg, looking for a takedown. McFey pushes down on Fortune's head and hops out.
Fortune pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces McFey back to the cage. Fortune follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Fortune jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.
McFey takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
A swing and a miss from Fortune.
Fortune stuns McFey with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Fortune throws a head kick that misses
and McFey counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Fortune lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Fortune throws a jab but it's blocked by McFey.
Fortune throws the left hand but McFey avoids the punch easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Fortune throws a nice looking combination but McFey bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
A punch lands to the side of McFey 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Fortune throws a head kick but McFey moves out of range.

Fortune throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Fortune throws a leg kick but McFey moved away.
Fortune throws a series of punches but McFey avoids them all with ease.

Fortune looks to land a right hand but McFey moved out of range.
McFey keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Fortune.
McFey loads up on a big right hand but Fortune slips the punch.
Fortune lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Fortune misses with a two punch combination.
McFey has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Fortune.
Fortune scores with a one two! McFey had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Shamus McFey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fortune scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. McFey doesn't seem bothered though.
A telegraphed right hand from McFey misses the target.
Fortune fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Fortune throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Fortune just misses with a punch to the body.
Fortune swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McFey counters with a head kick. That will keep Fortune thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McFey uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Fortune.
Fortune is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.

and McFey counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Fortune thinking.

McFey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

McFey on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

McFey walks into a left hand.
Fortune throws a head kick but McFey moves out of range.
McFey throws a lazy head kick
and Fortune connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Fortune cracks McFey with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Fortune misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Fortune takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Fortune swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McFey loads up on a big right hand but Fortune slips the punch.

McFey tries to move into range but Fortune moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Tarquin Fortune seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fortune swings for the body but McFey moves out of range.
Fortune throws a jab but it's blocked by McFey.
Fortune throws a right and a left that McFey avoids nicely.

McFey steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Fortune. That one must have hurt.
McFey on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Fortune tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
McFey really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...

Fortune throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and McFey counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Fortune is lucky that one didn't land flush.


It looks like Tarquin Fortune has been cut.

McFey takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Fortune throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McFey.
Tarquin Fortune seems to be getting the better of the standup.

McFey misses with a straight left.
Fortune walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. McFey checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Fortune fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fortune throws a right and a left that both miss.
Fortune throws a shot from downtown. McFey moves away and avoids it.
A slow jab from Fortune misses its intended target.
McFey tries to move into range but Fortune moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

McFey bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Fortune misses with a looping left.
Fortune lands a jab to the head.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Fortune, as that shot connected.
McFey checks a leg kick nicely.
Fortune misses with a jab, cross combination.
Fortune throws a combination. McFey tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Fortune throws a sloppy head kick and McFey moves out of range easily.
McFey moves out of range of the strikes.
Tarquin Fortune is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fortune will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Fortune shoots in for a double leg but McFey sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Fortune throws a jab when McFey was well out of range.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close second round but I would say that Shamus McFey will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Tarquin Fortune's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Fortune throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
McFey takes one to the side of the head.
Fortune closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Fortune throws a right and a left that McFey avoids nicely.
Fortune throws a sloppy head kick and McFey moves out of range easily.
Fortune throws a hook but McFey blocks it.
McFey looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.
McFey displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Fortune throws out the jab.
McFey takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
McFey pulls out of a head kick attempt.
McFey takes one on the button.
A combination from Fortune does no damage.

Fortune throws a lazy right hand but McFey sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
McFey ducks right into an uppercut from Fortune.
A slow jab from Fortune misses its intended target.

Fortune drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

McFey has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Fortune is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for McFey.
The strikes coming from Fortune are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Fortune wants to lay and pray for a moment but McFey keeps working.

McFey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Fortune working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
McFey is trying to control Fortune's posture but Fortune avoids it.

McFey manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
McFey thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
McFey looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

McFey is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
McFey has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Fortune tries to hold on but McFey pushes him away.

BOOM! McFey connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Fortune is in a horrible position here. McFey smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Fortune bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Fortune wants to control from the top but McFey keeps moving.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

McFey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Fortune can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Fortune trying to control but McFey is working from the bottom.

McFey is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Fortune forces his way into half guard.
Fortune wants to pass to mount but McFey is defending the position.
McFey is looking to improve his position.

McFey is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Fortune pulls his head out easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fortune is trying to work for a kimura but McFey is defending well.
McFey trying to hold on to Fortune's head to control him but Fortune postures up.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Shamus McFey.
I think McFey has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
